V Festival Int. de Animación

La quinta edición del ANIMA estará dedicada a explorar e investigar
sobre el concepto de Señas de Identidad. *Con este fin, se abren las
siguientes convocatorias*:

- A *largometrajes y cortos de animación de cualquier género y
temática*. Especial interés se presta a los trabajos en los cuales la
intención expresiva del realizador sobresale frente a los requerimientos
del mercado; y a aquellos trabajos producidos en el marco de
instituciones educativas. La participación está abierta a trabajos de
cualquier lugar del mundo, con especial interés en aquellos procedentes
de América Latina; *desarrollados para cine, video, televisión o Internet.*

- *A* *ponencias y presentaciones multimedia sobre el concepto "Señas de
Identidad"*.

Miguel de Lorenzi (ARG)

Villa María, Argentina, 1940
Integró desde 1963 hasta 1979 el equipo de diseño de los Servicios de
Radio y Televisión de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (Canal 10 y
Radio Universidad). Dirigió el cortometraje Pinito y la Estrella que
participó en la muestra de Cine para Televisión de Cannes en el año
1964. Ha sido director de arte, ilustrador y diseñador de varias
publicaciones semanales de Córdoba; y ha ejercido como profesor de
diseño gráfico en la Escuela de Artes de la Universidad Nacional de
Córdoba además de trabajar como director de arte y diseñador del
principal diario de Córdoba, La Voz del Interior, entre 1979 y 2005.
Ha recibido numerosos premios en concursos de diseño, entre ellos
premios a la excelencia en el diseño de diarios de la SND, Society of
News Design, con sede en Washington; y el 1er y 2do Premio de la
Asociación de Entidades Periodísticas de la Argentina 2003 y 1993.

Maureen Furniss (USA)

La Dra. Maureen Furniss es historiadora en animación. Es editora
fundadora del Animation Journal y autora de Art in Motion: Animation
Aesthetics y Chuck Jones: Conversations, y está finalizando su trabajo
en un libro sobre la producción de animación experimental. Su tesis
doctoral, Asuntos del Espíritu: Un estudio sobre la animación abstracta,
fue completada en la Universidad del Sur de California USC. Es miembro
fundador y actualmente presidente de la Sociedad para Estudios de la
Animación, y ha recibido un premio por sus contribuciones al campo de la
animación del capítulo hollywoodense de ASIFA.

Barry Purves (UK)

Barry es un director nominado tanto al Oscar como al BAFTA, que
usualmente – pero no exclusivamente – trabaja en animación. Ha animado y
dirigido numerosas series para televisión como The Wind in the Willows,
y el año pasado, Rupert Bear, y recientemente, Bob el Constructor. Ha
trabajado en roles significativos en películas como Marte Ataca y King
Kong, numerosos comerciales y secuencias de títulos.
Sus propias películas, muy teatrales y frecuentemente controvertidas,
han obtenido más de sesenta premios alrededor del mundo, y muchos
festivales han desarrollado retrospectivas. Su primer libro, /‘Stop
Motion – passion process performance’ /fue editado el año pasado.
Utilizando la animación como catalizador, observa el proceso creativa de
varios medios. Un segundo libro ha sido completado recientemente.
Barry enseña y da clases magistrales en estudios y universidades del
mundo entero, y se lo encuentra frecuentemente integrando jurados de
festivales o curando muestras. Sus películas son discutidas en
profundidad en muchos libros, incluyendo aquellos escritos por Ray
Harryhausen, Clare Kitson y Paul Wells.

Esteban Tolj (ARG)

Dibujante nacido en la ciudad de Rosario, autor de historietas, dibujos
animados e ilustraciones. Actualmente publica la tira diaria /El “Pollo”
Palacios/, en el diario /La Capital/, ilustra las portadas de la revista
/El Vecino/, y notas para la revista /Cablehogar/, todos medios de la
ciudad de Rosario. Desde el año 1992 coordina su /Taller de dibujos e
historietas/; y es integrante de la productora de dibujos animados /“El
Sótano Cartoons”/ desde 1996. Se desempeña como docente de la /Escuela
de Animación/ de la Municipalidad de Rosario. Sus cortometrajes de
animación independiente se han exhibido y han obtenido premios en
numerosas muestras y festivales, nacionales e internacionales.

Juan Pablo Zaramella (Argentina)

Ilustrador y animador, nacido en Buenos Aires en 1972. En su carrera
como realizador independiente, sus cortos han obtenido un importante
reconocimiento en festivales internacionales de cine y animación. En
Argentina, sus películas han obtenido por dos años consecutivos el
premio al Mejor Corto del Año que otorga el INCAA. Su cortometraje
“Viaje a Marte” ha ganado más de 50 premios internacionales. Actualmente
se encuentra filmando su próximo corto, aun sin título, en la técnica de
pixilación.

En el marco del Festival también se desarrollarán muestras no
competitivas; seminarios; retrospectivas; talleres y foros específicos

/Miguel de Lorenzi (ARG)*

Villa María, Argentina, 1940
From 1963 to 1979 he was a member of the design team of the Radio and
TV Services of the National University of Córdoba (Channel 10 and
University Radio). He directed the short film Pinito and the Star which
was screened at the Film for TV section of the Cannes Film Festival in
1964. He has worked as art director, illustrator and designer of
numerous weekly publications in Córdoba; he has taught Graphic Design at
the School of Arts of the National University of Córdoba and has also
worked as art director and designer of Córdoba’s main newspaper “La Voz
del Interior“, from 1979 through 2005..
His work has been recognized with several awards in design competitions,
amongst them the Excellence in Newspaper Design from the Washington –
based Society of News Design SND, and Argentina’s Association of
Journalistic Media 1st and 2nd Prize in Illustration Category 2003 and 1993.

Maureen Furniss (USA)

Maureen Furniss, Ph.D. is an animation historian. She is the founding
editor of /Animation Journal/ and author of /Art in Motion: Animation
Aesthetics/ and /Chuck Jones: Conversations, /and is currently
completing work on a book on experimental animation production (Laurence
King 2008). Her dissertation, /Things of the Spirit: A Study of Abstract
Animation/, was completed at the University of Southern California. She
is a founding member and currently president of the Society for
Animation Studies, and she has received an award for her contributions
to the field of animation from the Hollywood chapter of ASIFA.

Barry Purves (UK)

Barry is an Oscar and BAFTA nominated director usually, but not
exclusively, working with animation. He has animated on and directed
many series for television such as /The Wind in the Willows/, and last
year, /Rupert Bear/, and most recently, /Bob the Builder./ He has worked
in significant roles on such feature films as /Mars Attacks/ and /King
Kong/, and many commercials and titles sequences.
His own, very theatrical, and often controversial, films have won more
than sixty awards around the world, and many festivals have held
retrospectives. Barry’s first book, /‘Stop Motion – passion process
performance’/ was released last year. Using animation as a catalyst, it
looks at the creative process of many media. A second book has just been
completed this year.
Barry teaches and gives master classes at studios and colleges all over
the world, and is often on festival juries, judging or curating
screenings. Barry’s films are discussed at length in many books,
including those written by Ray Harryhausen, Clare Kitson and Paul Wells.

Esteban Tolj (ARG)

Illustrator born in the city of Rosario, author of comic strips,
cartoons and drawings. He currently publishes the daily strip /El
“Pollo” Palacios /at the /La Capital newspaper/, illustrates the covers
of the /El Vecino/ magazine, and illustrates articles for the
/Cablehogar/, magazine, all of them being graphic media of the city of
Rosario. He has coordinated a Comic Book Workshop since 1992, and he is
a member of the independent animation production company /“El Sótano
Cartoons”/ since 1996. He also works as a teacher at the Animation
School of the City of Rosario. His independent animation films have been
screened and have also been awarded prizes in several special
presentations and festivals of national and international scope.* *

Juan Pablo Zaramella (Argentina)

Illustrator and animator, born in Buenos Aires in 1972. As an
independent animator, his films have been acknowledged recognition by
the most prestigious international animation film festivals. In
Argentina, his films have been awarded – for two consecutive years – the
Best Short Feature of the Year Award by the National Institute for Film
and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA). His short film “Journey to Mars” has won
over 50 international awards. He is currently filming his next short
animation, still untitled, using pixilation technique.
