Asunto: Invitation for a stage in ESA Dear Professors, I am postdoc for
nanotechnologies at the Advanced Concepts Team of the European Space Agency. I
would like to draw your attention on an open Stage position that was released
some time ago, which contains a study that might be of interest for one of the
students under your supervision. Please find more details following the link:
http://www.esa.int/gsp/ACT/opportunities/openSTA.htm The study aims to
identify the key elements on the orbital transfer of nanoparticles mediated by
radiation pressure. The starting point consists on studying the orbits of
small particles (radiation force of the same order than gravitational force)
with the broadly known theories of scattering. We plan first to consider
particles constituted by common materials (dielectric and metallic, charged and
uncharged) and depending on the progress of the study to implement complex
materials particles (based on metamaterials). We expect to gain some knowledge
about the possible orbits that particles can follow considering mainly the
following issues: i) The initial conditions of the particle departure (initial
velocity, and position (Earth orbit, Lunar orbit, etc.)) ii) The solar
radiation pressure iii) The thermal emission We would like to start the stage
as soon as possible. Please redistribute to any colleague who might be
interested in the study. With best regards. Jose M. Llorens
