FATAL FALL REPORTED IN MEMPHIS: According to news reports, a three-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a hoistway fall at a Memphis, Tennessee apartment building. The child fell into the hoistway when the landing doors opened, but the car was not at the landing. The boy's mother and grandfather were with him at the time. The May 1 incident is being investigated.
FATAL FALL REPORTED IN SOUTH AFRICA: Department of labor officials in South Africa are investigating the death of a man who reportedly fell from an elevator stuck near the sixth floor of a Durban building. The Daily News reported that the 30-year-old man apparently pried open the elevator doors, but fell when he attempted to leave the car. According to the report, the incident occurred on April 27.
