Os paso esta información de la reunión en Bruselas sobre mercurio en lámparas del 27.6.08 (con la invitación y financiación de la EEB, esto es, la Oficina Europea del Medio Ambiente), por si fuese de vuestro interés. En la reunión del 28 (sólo para personas de asociaciones/organizaciones de pacientes) también se tratará el tema de la amalgama dental de mercurio.
Si estáis interesados en ir, enviad la solicitud de financiación a Elena Lymberidi (elena.lymberidi@...), mejor hoy (mañana o pasado a más tardar). Yo acabo de enviar mi solicitud. Espero estar el 27 y 28 mejor que lo que estuve el viernes 6.6.08 (casi cancelo mi ponencia en el congreso de Coruña sobre patología digestiva -- http://www.aeepd.com/congresActual/preprograma2008.pdf --, pues estuve MÁS mareado, cansado y con náuseas que de costumbre; hasta que, poco a poco, me sentí algo mejor a última hora de la tarde).
PERDONAD que no os haya avisado antes, pero ya sabéis que mi memoria es PÉSIMA y, como os dije, yo acabo de enviar, hace unos minutos, mi solicitud de financiación a Elena Lymberidi. Ya estuve en una reunión similar el año pasado y resulta muy ilustrativo, informativo y gratificante estar rodeado de personas, de verdad interesadas en la CIENCIA (y sin conflicto de intereses) y en el origen de los problemas de salud y medioambientales (y no sólo en parchear los problemas). Allí van, sobre todo, profesionales médico-sanitarios, personas de asociaciones de pacientes, y tb. se invita a representantes de la UE y a la industria implicada (en estas reuniones de trabajo debemos estar TODOS, pues ni los pacientes debemos/podemos decidir sólos, ni tampoco la industra y los políticos deben decidir sin, al menos, escuchar --¡no digo oír!-- a los profesionales médico-sanitarios y pacientes).

Many thanks to those who have already registered for the EEB/ZMWG conference Mercury -containing lamps under the spotlight, June 27 in Brussels.
For those who have requested funding, I would need to underline once more that this conference is more EU focused, unfortunately the budget is restricted, and priority is with EU NGOs. I will respond to your queries next week for final confirmation.
Furthermore regarding the NGO strategy meeting - on Saturday 28 June, Please find attached a draft agenda. As you will see i have invited the DG ENV representative but he has not responded yet.
Please let me know if you have other issues that you will need to discuss - or please think over also with the situation in your countries, what may be priorities for you and we can discuss these in conjunction with the EU priorities and developments on the issues.

Regarding REGISTRATION - PLEASE PROCEED ASAP, deadline is the MONDAY 9 JUNE , and we need to meet this deadline so we can ensure Hotel reservations.

[ii] Legislative Background
The EC, in line with the Mercury Strategy actions 8 and 10, is currently conducting a study of the products and applications containing mercury circulating in society,
with a view to eventually shifting to mercury-free solutions wherever possible.
In parallel two other EU directives are dealing with mercury in lamps:
ï¼ the EU Directive 2002/95 on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) (including mercury), which sets
minimum allowed content of mercury in compact and straight fluorescent lamps, is currently under revision.[ii]
ï¼ The EU Directive 2005/32 establishing a framework for the setting of eco-design requirements for energy-using products, is currently in the process of
detailing such requirements for street, office and domestic lighting. [ii]
Moreover the EU Directive 2002/96 on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment is currently under revision, which will deal with the need for separate collection and
recycling of such products.
