Elton John dedicou canção a Cristiano Ronaldo

No concerto em Lisboa, Elton John dedicou "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" ao futebolista português.

Comprem-no. Ou façam download ilegal, whatever", sentenciou, antes da última canção: "In My Arms", do tal disco que o autor deixa downloadar, A Piece of What You Need , do ano passado. Só não lhe digam que o sacaram.

  • Elton John actua em Lisboa (António Cotrim/Lusa)

http://diario.iol.pt/musica/elton-john-pavilhao-atlantico/1072380-4060.html
«Don`t Let The Sun Go Down On Me».

I Think It`s Going to Be a Long Long Time».

«Are You Ready For Love», «Midnight Creeper», «Susie», «I`m Still Standing» e «Your Song» - esta última a encerrar o encore, - foram alguns dos temas entoados por Elton John. E qual deles o mais aplaudido...

Elton John ainda para as curvas
Data: 29-06-2009

Concerto: Elton John actuou ontem à noite no Atlântico

“Tão bom estar em Lisboa”

http://www.correiomanha.pt/noticia.aspx?contentid=A2ADD5E3-527F-494C-9C2E-8082631EEC0E&channelid=00000185-0000-0000-0000-000000000185

'Boa Noite.

The Eltonite's day... from Sweden... One of the greatest eltonites on the earth... Tanja_Friend!!!!

http://eltonjohnallsongslist.blogspot.com/2009/06/eltonites-day-from-sweden-one-of.html

"Elton John is amazing! He heals and changes people. But what is most important is that he is not just a huge well-known superstar. He is actually a great individual person, who touches us all with his music and personality"... Someone, on my side, wrote this words when she saw Elton in Sundswall, Sweden, in 2003. Elton was on concert but he was suffering a bad cold. I couldn't find more appropiated words referring to Elton as the true professional he is. We have the chance to have here a very special guest... the woman who's been writing the reviews when Elton is in Sweden, along with Ulf Olby, another one of the greatest eltonites... Ladies & gentlemen, a big applause to the fantastic... Tanja_Friend!!!!

Thank you for the acceptation, really a pleasure to have you... Could you tell us, please, who are you and where are you from?

My name is Tanja. I live in Stockholm, Sweden.

Thanks!!! When did you become an Eltonite? Remember the first time you heard Elton's music and what moves you to buy his music?

I became an Elton fan around 1995 when I saw the animated movie The Lion King for the first time and was absolutely fascinated hearing Can You Feel The Love Tonight. I bought the soundtrack and the newly released Made in England and since then I've collected all the passed and new albums and singles. The lyrics are so important to me. I could always asociate events in my life with what Elton was singing - sadness, loss, love, longing for love. It's as if Elton and Bernie were describing my own private world. That's why it moves me.

Great!!! What was it like seeing Elton for the first time and how many concerts have you been at? And also, could you tell us if you have ever been in touch with him, got a signed autograph or even, spoken with him or with other members of his band?

I've seen Elton 16 times, mostly in Sweden, but also in England and Norway. My first concert was in Oslo, Norway in the year 2000. It was a solo show and I felt shivers down my spine throughout the whole concert. Elton's voice was so pure and powerful. So full of energy and passion. I couldn't believe how those piano sounds and that voice could sink through my skin and make my heart beat faster. Through the years I've got many autographs, around 20, I think. I've never met Elton in person but did get a chance to meet Nigel and Davey backstage in Stockholm in 2002.

Which could be a great set list, in your opinion? Is there any song that Elton hasn’t played yet, and you think that he should do it? And you prefer the Elton’s solo tours or better with band? And, for you, which member of the band is (or was) irreplaceable? Miss someone, now?

The best set list would be the one with a lot of variety and spontaneity. If Elton could pick a few different songs for each concert that he played. And some b-sides as well. I am tired of the same monotoneous set lists which have repeated themselves during the last 10 years, it seems like. I would really like to hear songs like Mellow or Slave or Salvation or Yell Help... anything old and hardly ever played live. I prefer band shows and I think that Davey and Nigel are irreplacable.

Since 00s, Elton's had recorded good albums which weren't successful in music charts terms. "Peachtree road", "The Captain and the Kid", "Rocket man Collection"... Why you think that so? Are people tired of Elton’s music?

People are not tired of Elton but they think that he's lost his energy and left it in the 70's. They can't see that he's developed and changed since then. Not for worse or better. He's just changed his style.

And how was the success of Elton John in your country? Which references had swedish about Elton, specially in the 70s and 80s? And the most succesful albums? Could you still hear Elton´s music now on radio stations?

Elton was very successful in Sweden in the 70's but has lost his edge since then. What you hear on the radio are mostly Sacrifice and The One - never anything new or old. It's strange. I don't really know what references Elton had here in Sweden in the 70's and 80's as I am too young to judge it.

As allsongslist informed: “Bernie and Elton are planning on getting to work in a Los Angeles studio in February of 2010 for a special project. That will be a collaboration of old and new friends and will represent a direction that has been fermenting for years in the heads of its perpetrators”... What do you expect about this new project? What it could be?

It could be yet another album of duets, probably Elton's songs sung by other artists with Elton on piano...

Ok! Which is your Elton's item that you really appreciate, for being hard to get or for the happiness you've got to have it?

It's a very hard question. Maybe it was a T-shirt with Elton on it. When I started as a fan, I wanted all the world to know I loved Elton and was searching everywhere for a T-shirt with his image. Obviously, I couldn't find it anywhere and made an order on the internet, which was not so frequent back in 1995. When I got a package with the shirt, I put it on directly and went out on the street. Actually, all the CDs and videos I've bought with Elton brought me a lot of happiness, especially if it was a new release and the expectations were high.

Fabulous!! And finally, could you tell me your five favourite Elton's songs in running order, for my AllSongsList?

1. The One 2. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road 3. Rocket Man 4. Someone Saved My Life Tonight 5. Mansfield.

Thanks so much. Would you want to add some observation or suggestion, or something you want to say to your other eltonites?

Well... all the fans of Elton I've known through the years have been marvellous and hospitable and kind. I want to thank Elton for the people I got to know through his music.

Este será o concerto de todos os êxitos: 'Nikita', 'Rocket man', 'Don't let the sun go down on me', 'Your song' e a inevitável 'Candle in the wind'.

O último registo, The Captain and the Kid, é de 2006.

Elton John no Atlântico

Ao longo de duas horas, o músico vai entoar 'hits' como "Your song", "Nikita" e "Don't let the sun go down on me".

O britânico conquistou lugar cativo no pódio do reconhecimento internacional.

A abertura está a cargo do londrino Teddy Thompson, cujo último álbum é "A piece of what you need", editado no ano passado.

Restam mil bilhetes para ir ver Sir Elton John

http://hardmusica.pt/noticia_detalhe.php?cd_noticia=2262

Much of the pop fraternity was at Sir Elton John’s AIDS foundation ‘White tie & Tiara’ ball at Old Windsor on the outskirts of London, when

news of king of pop Michael Jackson’s death spread.

Celebrities like Hugh Grant, Kelly Osborne, and Lily Allen were at the party. Indian celebrities were represented there by Arun Nayyar, Liz Taylor and Raja Dhody. Says Dhody, confirming, "We got the news at the party and I guess so did a lot of people, but there was no public mention of it. But everyone was shocked and talking about it. Elton did not announce it — I guess the show had to go on. They raised far more than expected at the auction for the AIDS foundation. It was a special night. The surprise act was Justin Timberlake performing.”

Another source present later said, “The energy at the party just changed considerably as the news spread. No one could believe it.” Sir Elton John reportedly later performed an impromptu rendition of Candle in the Wind, dedicating it to ‘friends who can no longer be with us’ so as not to interrupt the proceedings. He also dedicated Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me specifically to MJ.

As the news broke there was also the doubt of it being a rumour, hence the tribute paid was also low key. Dhody confirms, "The energy of the place got low, but a lot of people obviously didn't know so know one wanted to create a stir or scene there. Arun and Liz were there but we didn't really discuss it at the time — the focus was the show. Elton sang first and then Justin Timberlake performed like a king — totally rocked the place."

Justin Timberlake, who was deeply influenced by Jackson’s music in his formative years and bases his dance personality upon Jackson’s, later blogged after the performance, “We have lost a genius and a true ambassador of not only Pop music but of all music... He has been an inspiration to multiple generations, and I will always cherish the moments I shared with him on stage and all of the things I learned about music from him and the time we spent together. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones.”

For the 11th year in a row, Sir Elton John and David Furnish were “at home” to stars and celebrities, at their Windsor mansion, “Woodside”, to mark the 2009 White Tie & Tiara Ball, held in partnership with Chopard, the Geneva-based jeweller, on Thursday night.

This year’s theme, “Contemporary Art’, celebrated the completion of a new pavilion-gallery at Sir Elton’s home, which will house his impressive collection and also be used to profile rising young art stars and fund-raising events.

In keeping with the theme, the grounds of “Woodside” were turned into an open-air gallery and sculpture garden for the night, featuring works on loan from leading London galleries and from artists such as Damien Hirst, Marc Quinn, Richard Long (currently the subject of a retrospective at the Tate Modern), Zaha Hadid, Banksy and Anthony Gormley. Chopard creations were also on display in Andy Warhol’s “Brillo Boxes”.

The artists, Sam Taylor Wood and Damien Hirst, were among the high-profile guests, together with Elizabeth Hurley; the actress, Claire Danes and her fiancé, Hugh Dancy; the actress Kate Beckinsale; the legendary diva, Dame Shirley Bassey; the singers, Lily Allen, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Natalie Imbruglia; the actor, David Walliams; Geri Halliwell; and the leading models, Lily Cole and Erin O’Connor.

Naturally, Chopard jewels accessorised the best-dressed gowns.

The star of the after-dinner ‘entertainment menu” was Justin Timberlake.

The White Tie & Tiara balls, held annually to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation, have raised close to £27 million since the singer set up the charity in 1998. The auction at Thursday night’s ball raised a further £4 million.

Sir Elton John reportedly dedicated a song to the late Michael Jackson during his famous White Tie and Tiara Ball last night.

The singer, who was hosting the annual event at his Berkshire home, is understood to have performed 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' in Jackson's honour after learning of his death.

According to several reports, many of the guests at the fundraiser decided to leave early after being told that Jackson had passed away in Los Angeles.

Among the celebrities in attendance were Liz Hurley, Lily Allen, David Walliams and Geri Halliwell.

Justin Timberlake was also seen leaving the charity gala. He had previously paid tribute to the King of Pop, saying: "We have lost a genius and a true ambassador of not only pop music, but of all music."

The L.A. Coroner's Office is expected to perform an autopsy on the 50-year-old's body later today. He passed away at the UCLA Medical Centre last night following a suspected cardiac arrest.

America’s Got Talent: Teen Outcast Finds His Dancing Feet

June 25, 2009

How about those tiny dancers?

Like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, Arcadian Broad took the stage on Wednesday’s episode of America’s Got Talent and found his creative self during a leaping and twirling performance set to Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing.” Arcadian, 13, said he’d been teased in school and was always bad at sports but he gained the confidence he lacked when he discovered dance. And he showed it with an electric energy when he hit the AGT stage, causing judge Sharon Osbourne to say he has a “God-given talent.” Take that, bullies!

O cantor, então, sentou ao piano e começou a cantar Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me e dedicou a música a Jackson.

Elton John to get a street named after him?

    http://www.nme.com/news/elton-john/45512

The Rocket Man to hit the map in his old neighbourhood

Elton John could be on verge of getting a street named after him.

The rocket man is from Pinner and the local council are considering honouring him with his own road.

According to Harrow Council's publication Harrow People, they are "considering plans to name a road after its most famous musical son".

The local publication also reveals that John allowed a rapper from his local area to sample him, an honour previously reserved for hip-hop's heavyweights.

Ironik, who play's the borough's Under One Sky event at Kodak Recreation Ground, Harrow View on June 28, scored a hit sampling 'Tiny Dancer'.

"We approached Elton and management after we worked on it and they loved the idea and cleared the sample, which is one of only three samples in the hip-hop scene to be cleared," he told Harrow People. "The other two were for Tupac (Shakur) and Kanye West."

Elton John is set to have a street named after him in his home town, it has been claimed.

The pop legend grew up in Pinner, near Harrow, before becoming an international music star.

According to the local council's own publication, Harrow People, the idea for the gesture is in the pipeline.

Officials in the Greater London town are said to be "considering plans to name a road after its most famous musical son".

    Elton John Brazilian Lovers

is a blog dedicated to Sir Elton John, The Knight of our hearts. This tool will be used to share great moments with him, tell our beautiful stories following him and open our heart to show all our love for him.

Bernie Taupin Birthday, May 22nd, 2009 - By Lucília

Happy Birthday, Bernie! Your fans in Brazil send a GREAT BIG HUG to the Brown Dirt Cowboy on this International Hug Day!!!

We have posted this message to Bernie on his Blog. I hope he reads it.

    Dear Mr. Taupin,

This is a very special day for the millions of fans you have in Brazil, as well as for those all around the world. This is a day to rejoice for your life, for your creative longevity and for the multifaced talent God has given to you. For a great deal of us, who were born in a non-English-speaking country, your poems have been not only a source of inspiration, but also a powerful drive to learn the English language. The images you create and the stories you tell have been an integral part of the lives and careers of many a youngster since the 1970´s. Your words have created many worlds.

When some of my fellow Elton John & Bernie Taupin Brazilian fans urged me to write some words to you in your birthday, I asked myself: What could I tell to a poet? What could possibly appeal to the soul of a poet? What could I say, so that he might feel the love of the common people? People he has never met or spoken to; people who are strangers to him, but nevertheless would like to show him their love and appreciation; people who would like to encourage him to keep the visionary eyes, the warm heart and the sharp pen which have given the world so many unforgettable lines.

So, I decided I should send you a poem. It has been written by one of the most renowned Brazilian Simbolists, Alphonsus de Guimaraens. I have chosen this poem because, whenever I read it, I can hear echoes of your High Flying Bird, which - in my humble opinion - is the work of a genius. Accept it as a heartfelt homage.

God bless you, Bernie. "I hope you don´t mind" that I call you Bernie, in my own name and in the name of my fellow fans. You have played such an important part in our lives, that we dare see you as a friend.

    Yours truly,

Brazilian EJ/BT Fans - "Movement Elton Come Back"

    Here's the poem:

    Ismália

    Quando Ismália enlouqueceu,
    Pôs-se na torre a sonhar...
    Viu uma lua no céu,
    Viu outra lua no mar.

No sonho em que se perdeu,
    Banhou-se toda em luar...
    Queria subir ao céu,
    Queria descer ao mar...

    E, no desvario seu,
    Na torre pôs-se a cantar...
    Estava perto do céu,
    Estava longe do mar...

    E como um anjo pendeu
    As asas para voar...
    Queria a lua do céu,
    Queria a lua do mar...

As asas que Deus lhe deu
    Ruflaram de par em par...
    Sua alma subiu ao céu,
    Seu corpo desceu ao mar...
Forgive me, please, if you can read Portuguese; but in case you cannot, I´ve humbly written a translation:

    When Ismália went mad,

She went up to the tower and dreamed...

She saw a moon in the heavens,

She saw another moon in the sea.

In the dream in which she got lost,

    She bathed herself in moonlight...

She wanted to go up to the heavens,

She wanted to go down to the sea...

    And, in her derangement,

She started singing in the tower...

She was close to the heavens,

She was far from the sea...

And as an angel she opened

    Her wings to fly...

    She wanted the heavens´ moon,

    She wanted the sea´s moon...

The wings God had given her

    Fluttered wide open...

Her soul went up to Heaven,

Her body went down to the sea...

    Elton John CHALLENGE!

Thanks to Leila for the inspiration for this post. Let's have some fun and play a game.

Name one Elton John song, tell us why it's special for you, and we will post the artwork that goes with the song.

What makes this a challenge? It will be hard to find an Elton John song that Old76 HASN'T done!

I will start with a song she mentioned to me in a private email....

You REAL Elton fans will know immediately what it is!

    Let the challenge begin!

    Suggestion box

Drop any suggestions or ideas here...

    I need HELP! ;^)

    Let's Begin

    from suezq....

    OK, here we go...

This blog has been set up for a few days now, and I am still trying to figure out how to customize it. And what is blogging all about? I have to admit I am not too savvy on the ways of the web. I've tried Facebook, and I find it to be quite intimidating...probably not my thing...but I'll keep an open mind.

The idea of this blog is to invite discussion, to share our artwork, and maybe at some point it will become a fun place to hang out once in awhile. For those of you who are EJ.com forum members, I guess I'd like for this to become a sort of "No Holds Barred" location.

Will it become something worthy of precious web-time? We'll see...

Something I would like to implement is an artwork of the day...which will give us the opportunity to show a piece, describe it, give insight as to it's creation, and invite responses & questions anyone might have.

I'm gonna start with one of MY favorites, "Your Song 2008". This is typical Old76 style artwork, what he calls a "drawn collage". What makes his artwork so special, are the details you will find in unexpected places. "Your Song" is my favorite Elton John song, because it was the first for me.
This beautiful piece is framed and hangs in our living room.

    I hope you don't mind...I hope you don't mind...that I share it here.

    Thursday, June 18, 2009

    Surprise!

    from suezq...

    Hello, Old76!

    Welcome to our blog!

After several days of planning and trying to figure out how to do this, I present you with our "blog".

This blog will serve as a place for us to post photos, create discussions, and just have some fun online.

Like everything else we do together, it will evolve into something really special.

This blog is dedicated to you, Old76...because I believe in you and the beautiful art that you create every day.

    I hope you don't mind....

Theo Fennell returns to rescue his own company

Shake-up at the troubled jeweller to the stars sees its Old Etonian founder back on board

Theo Fennell, jeweller to the stars, is returning to the company he set up 27 years ago with a mission to haul it back into the black.
The company announced today that its eponymous founder has been appointed as creative director, responsible for "design, creation and promotion of the company". His remit is to refocus the company on its core strengths in high-end jewellery and he has also increased his stake in the business.
"The coming months will see the launch of new collections and some very original designs," said Fennell, who is renowned for his high-spending A-list client base. Celebrity customers include David Beckham, Sir Elton John and Liz Hurley.
"My increased investment in the business reflects belief in the potential of the company," Fennell said. "We now have the right board and management team in place to take the business forward and to realise its huge potential."
The move is part of a significant shake-up of the struggling firm. Chairman Richard Northcott and Viscount Cowdray, a non-executive director, have quit with immediate effect and sold some of their shares. It comes a month after rescue talks with a mystery investor collapsed, and three months after the firm parted company with chief executive Pamela Harper.
The old Etonian's return comes four months after he stepped down from the board and set up his own design consultancy to develop "more unusual pieces that push the boundaries".
Theo Fennell Theo Fennell skull rings
Current Theo Fennell products include a white gold and white diamond-encrusted horn pendant with a St George's flag design (£4,100), an amethyst cuff made from yellow and white gold with a large amethyst (£7,500), and a yellow gold scroll ring with white diamonds topped by a pink tourmaline gem (£12,500). Those on more modest budgets could consider a sterling silver top for a Marmite jar (£130).
Sales and profits at Theo Fennell have been hit by the economic downturn. In December sales slumped by over 20%, and it made a £840,000 loss in its first half of its financial year compared with a profit of £434,000 a year ago. It has not yet published results for the full financial year to 31 March but is expected to have lost £2m before tax and exceptional items.
In the early days of his career as a jeweller, Fennell was a noted socialite. But having quit alcohol a decade ago, he says he now spends more time at home with wife Louise and daughters Emerald and Coco.
Today's shake-up will see Rupert Hambro, a former chairman of Hamley's and director of the Telegraph Group, appointed as non-executive chairman. Alasdair Hadden-Paton, whose career includes a 15-year stint as finance director of Townhouse Hotel Investments, will become deputy chairman. Fennell, Hambro and Hadden-Paton will together own 29.9% of the company.
Freddie George, retail analyst at Seymour Pierce, said the return of the "creative brains of the business" was a good move.
"The new management team will concentrate on rebuilding the business after an ill-judged expansionary phase in the last 18 months and refocus on its core strength in high-end jewelry," he added. "We continue to believe the company has a strong brand which has the potential to be exploited internationally when the markets start to recover."

What would you do if Sir Elton John sat you down and told you to start thinking about having kids? For singer Diana Krall, she listened! Diana hadn´t thought much about parenthood, busying herself in the recording studio and caring for her mother, Adella, who passed away from bone cancer in 2002. However, when she found herself in love with musician Elvis Costello a year later, the couple´s friend Elton sat her down for a little chat.

"He says, `Diana, you´re 39 - you´re going to be 40. You better start thinking about having kids,´ and I went, `Right ... .´ But usually, you´d have a parent, your mom would tell you that."

Taking the singer´s advice to heart, Diane and Elvis began trying for children, welcoming fraternal twin sons Dexter Henry Lorcan and Frank Harlan James, now 2 ½, in December 2006. Becoming a parent herself allowed Diana to "feel my mother back in me," she explains. Taking the twins on the road with her for much of her current tour, the songstress notes that Elvis pulls his weight as well!

"We´re equal parents. He´s home with them now with Vancouver, and he looks after then when I have to go to Washington to play for the president."

The 44-year-old´s latest album, Quiet Nights, was released on March 31st.

MIDDLETOWN - One of the songs B.J. Stahl sang Saturday night, June 20, was "Celebrate" - and she had plenty reason to do so when she won the Miami Valley Idol singing contest.

Addressing the audience from the stage of the Sorg Opera House after her win, the former Middletown resident who now lives in Southgate, Ky., said, "There´s absolutely no way I would be here without you. I felt like Forrest Gump but I was crippled by my own mind. I thought I wasn´t good enough. But you guys said, `Oh yes, you are!´"

Stahl, 58, who also sang "Ain´t No Sunshine" in the contest, was a crowd favorite in the contest determined partly by audience vote and partly by a judging panel. She won $1,000 and recording time with Road Apple Music.

"You´re a class act," judge Terry Monk said to Stahl. "You take every song and make it your own."

Coming in second was Tommy Williams, 26, of Monroe, who sang Elton John´s "Don´t Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and "Addicted to Love" by Robert Palmer. He won $500 and recording time.

After Williams performed the Elton John song, judge Vicki Hall, a retired talent agent, said, "That´s a pretty tough song, but you nailed it."

The judge known as "Double P," an official with the Xtreme Valley Wrestling League, also held at Sorg told her "That´s how a star performs."

In third place was Meghan Sanborn, 23, of West Chester Twp. She sang "Some Kind of Wonderful" by Grand Funk Railroad and "Desperado" by the Eagles. She won $250 and recording time.

Rounding out the top five were Dale Buckner, 41 of Middletown and Amber Hensley, 21, of Hamilton.

The rest of the top 10 were Kaylyn Gooslin of Fairfield; Stephanie Horn of Carlisle; Erica Keene of Trenton; Sarena Smith of Beavercreek and Michelle Faulkner of Middletown.

"Our area´s got a lot of talent shining tonight, said Gooslin´s father, Troy. "I had a lot of fun here."

Elton John wollte Selbstmord begehen<- Zur Artikel-Übersicht

http://www.thefountainheads.com Sure Billy Joel thought of the song, but Elton John was around first? Each deals with the loss of hair, wardrobes, and divorce. Let us take an in-depth look at these two artists in a bout to bout PIANO MAN BREGGING SHOW!!

      In this corner we have:

Born in Middlesex???????, England in 1947 he came to America a month after the Beatles
broke up... Starting an entirely new BRITISH INVASION. With songs like Your Song, Tiny Dancer, Daniel, and Rocketman Sir Elton ruled the seventies. Until...

      In this corner we have:

Billy Joel Born in the Bronx of New York in 1949 Billy is about 2 years younger than Elton. His career also took a bit more time to develop. Mystery surrounds his legal and other battles that became the song Piano Man... But you can click on either name to learn their whole story... What we have here is a ROCK FIGHT CLUB!

Meet Roger and Stan our announcers:

      Stan:

"We want a CLEAN fight, no grab @ssing, no horsing around I want you two to shake hands and come out fighting!"

      Roger:

"So they enter the ring, a brief handshake, and they assume their positions. I am Roger Mudder and with me is Stan Goosefapper we will be your announcers."

"They shake eachother's hands as they lower themselves onto the chairs of their side by side pianos... There is a grumble, Sir Elton is upset that he was not introduced as Sir... Yes, the referee is checking the constitution No titles in America... OH, that is a big blow to confidence for Elton wouldn't you say Stan?"

      Stan:

"Oh, yeah I like totally agree Sweetie, but look at his outfit Roger Dodger?"

      Roger:

"Yes he has a beautiful sequence robe on with matching shoes.."

      Stan:

      "He looks YUMMY Roger."

      Roger:

"Indeed, but let's get back to the Match Stan. Sir Elton opens with Tiny Dancer , ohhh I don't know about that one, but look at those fingers fly across the ivory, Stan?"

      Stan:

      "Ohhh yeah Roger I see."

      Roger:

"When the tempo picks up in the song the crowd lights up. But, OHH BILLY is pulling out the BIG ONE Stan!"

      Stan:

"Yes what a choice, a lively number, My Life ... Oh the crowd took to that song Roger?"

      Roger:

Indeed, but Sir Elton shows he was hiding and pulls out Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting ... BOOM What a blow as the crowd is now on it's feet."

      Roger:

"YES, my favorite Joel number, Big Shot and the crowd screams as they drown out Sir Elton.. What about that Stan?"

      Stan:

"Wait, oh wait, YES a slow hit to the stomach with the opening of Rocketman ! Put that in your pipe and smoke it Rog!"

      Stan:

"What is that I hear, wait he is tapping it out, it couldn't be, it isn't? Billy Joel is tapping out Just the Way You Are ... Roger!"

      Roger:

"But Sir Elton starts to play Your Song and Candle in the Wind , it may be over as Billy is slumping down Stan?"

      Stan:

"Opp Billy raises a hand to the keyboard and hits out, yes, YES, She's Always a Woman ... He is going though as Sir Elton play Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Daniel, and The Bitch is Back ... What a fight Roger?"

      Life & Style

      David Furnish
Culture in the country: David Furnish with Damien Hirst´s The Inescapable Truth, one of many iconic works in the new gallery at the Berkshire home he shares with Elton John
David Furnish Elton John and Madonna Elton John and David Furnish

So this is a surreal moment. I've driven deep into the Berkshire countryside, past pretty village streets and blooming rhododendron bushes, and now I'm standing inside a clean white box gazing at an iconic Damien Hirst work.

On the wall above hangs a huge Gilbert & George, on the other side of the room, expertly lit, a classic Antony Gormley from the key show Blind Light.

A grisly spoof by the Chapman Brothers hangs on the far wall; to the right sits a sculpture by Grayson Perry.

I spy a large self-portrait by Gillian Wearing; an Andreas Gursky; a beautiful series by Louise Bourgeois; and a colourful painting with a snake motif by Phillip Taafe that once hung, rather extraordinarily, in the New York townhouse of Gianni Versace.

Welcome to the art gallery that Elton John and David Furnish built.

It's taken more than a year to construct, was finished barely a month ago, and it nestles between their chintzy country house, the floodlit tennis court and the finely-manicured acres of garden.

Designed by London architect Jack Schneider, it has waterfalls cascading down one wall, and copper cladding on another.

On the mezzanine level there's an exhaustive library of art books - indexed using the latest technology by a professional librarian - and in the roof, hi-tech photo-sensitive grilles that control the light levels.

I could spend all day in Sir Elton's office upstairs, with views from cleverly-placed windows into the gallery space itself, outside towards the garden and over a cunningly built bed of lilies apparently floating in space between the two.

Furnish, who's giving me the guided tour, pulls out a concealed drawer to reveal a laptop.

"He's a complete computer-phobe," he whispers, "but I've got it all set up for the BBC sports page. He can just about manage the football scores."

Though he won't say how much it cost to build, Furnish is very proud of his Alice in Wonderland gallery, which you access via small white doors.

"Elton loves it. I've never known him give so many lunches and dinners as he has in the last two weeks. He wants to show it off."

Next week all their friends get to see it(and friends in this very strange context mean the likes of Elizabeth Hurley, Elle Macpherson and Justin Timberlake) when it opens officially as the centrepiece of the annual fundraising gala for the Elton John Aids Foundation, The White Tie and Tiara Ball.

In the gallery's honour, the £30,000-a-table extravaganza - probably the smartest garden party of the year - is this year built around a contemporary art theme.

And presumably the artists are all showing up, too? "Oh, I think so. White Cube has taken a table.

Damien is coming, Tracey and the Chapmans and Gary Hume. They're all friends of ours as well."

Furnish and John, almost certainly the world's most famous gay couple, are often also described as the world's best-connected couple.

So how do they compile the guest list? Who gets the nod, and who is left languishing outside the heavily guarded electronic gates?

"We always go back to the people who've supported us in the past," says Furnish.

"We get requests from people who've never been before but we very much want to be loyal to the people who are loyal to us."

Madonna, then - or Guy? This question alarms him. He's such a friendly, open, wholesomely Canadian sort of chap, you can't imagine him falling out with anyone. Not even Lily Allen.

"Erm. I've heard mention of Madonna. I haven't heard mention of Guy," he replies carefully.

"Part of the fun is that people who buy tables often don't submit their guest list until the day of the event, when we do the place cards.

So I don't actually know who's coming exactly." But would he let Lily Allen in?

It was Allen, of course, who threw a hissy fit at Sir Elton while the two were co-hosting the GQ Awards last year.

She swore; he quipped back; and handbags, it seemed, were very publicly drawn.

"Sure, Lily's coming," beams Furnish. "In fact, she's staying at our house in the South of France right now. That whole thing was way over-played.

I got lots of texts the next day from people saying: how dare she speak to Elton like that?

I think Lily was upset by it but it was a bit of fun. They've always been friends."

This is the 11th year of the White Tie Ball - it raised £10.8 million last year, and the Foundation has spent $150 million on grassroots projects around prevention and treatment of HIV-AIDS in 17 countries. (Furnish is proud of the fact that their agency "gets its hands dirty" in areas other charities won't touch - needle exchange and work in prisons, for example).

It's more than three years, meanwhile, since Furnish and John got "married", on the first day of single sex unions in Britain.

Has the novelty worn off yet? "Not at all," he replies.

"We did it for symbolic reasons but when all the craziness died down, we both felt a surprising level of contentment. And it hasn't stopped yet."

Sometimes, he says, he is referred to solely as "Elton John's husband" - surely that gets annoying after a while?

"Initially it makes you laugh, and then you think beyond it. Actually, it makes me think the world is really changing and what a great thing it is that a man can be described that way at all."

Furnish has always been deeply serious on gay rights.

He's at his warmest, almost angry, when talking about the retraction of gay marriage in California.

"When I see what's going on there and how confused the world is, I feel very grateful and proud of my civil partnership, and proud that we live in a country that gives us the chance to make that commitment to each other.

I spent so much of my 20s ashamed of my sexuality, afraid of persecution. Now, it's kind of like, wow...." He tails off, grinning as though at his immense good fortune.

Not that he and Sir Elton are always in the same country.

Yesterday, Furnish was back from New York, where he saw Billy Elliot - he's executive producer of the musical - pick up 10 Tony Awards.

He also spends time in LA and Toronto with his film-maker hat on.

Meanwhile, Elton, now 62, has been touring with Billy Joel.

"I used to have this utopian vision that maybe when he turned 65 we might be able to slow down and enjoy our beautiful homes [they have others in Venice, Holland Park and Atlanta]," says Furnish.

"But I don't think that day will ever come. I don't think Elton is wired that way, and I've come to accept it. He's too driven.

He's the most future-focused person I know, one of the least nostalgic.

Once something is enjoyed, it's in the past. He only interested in new music, for example, and new artists."

A few years ago Furnish told me that, shortly after their civil partnership, he and John tthought hard about adopting a child - specifically, a three-year-old Aids orphan from Soweto whom they met on a field trip for the Foundation.

In fact, after researching the boy's background, they found he had a grandmother and two sisters, and was well looked after within his own community.

But ever since, they have paid for this boy's clothes, food and schoolbooks.

"He and his family came to one of Elton's concerts in Johannesburg, and he remembered Elton.

He's five now. He gave us all big hugs and wouldn't leave Elton's side.

The record company came to present Elton with a couple of discs and this little boy is in all the photos.

"But as all this was happening, his sister broke down in tears. She was sobbing: "They're going to take him away. " And we were like, no no no: that's not going to happen. It would be so wrong to break up a family like that."

What does he think of Mercy, Madonna's adopted daughter? Is it right that she leaves Malawi?

"It's a different situation," he replies, narrowing his eyes a little.

"Mercy has been living in an orphanage and didn't have any active parenting.

A lot of these kids have relatives who don't want to know. Those are the ones that need help."

The time for him and Sir Elton has passed, in any case. "We're too busy, and we're not at the right stage in our lives. Maybe if we'd met 20 years ago ..."

Meanwhile, he has a Ball to put on, and surprisingly, a few tickets going spare.

By "reconfiguring" the marquee, he says, they've squeezed an extra 50 covers in - making a total of 650 guests - and apparently this year there's no waiting list.

"The culture we've created, by going back to the same people, means a lot of others think they'll never be able to get a table.

So they've given up trying." Anyone with a spare £30,000 is therefore welcome to buy one.

"Justin [Timberlake] is doing the music and it's going to be amazing," says Furnish.

"We've had real pinch-me moments in the past - Elton, Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach singing together.

Elton, Barry Manilow and Donna Summer. But this year, with Justin, it's a fresh feel."

Before putting the final touches to this year's bash, Furnish is off on a weekend break.

No, not Brighton or Whitstable. Furnish is flying to Nice, where he'll call on the Beckhams in their newly done-up French place.

"We know a lot of people," he concedes, as I raise my eyebrows. Do they ever eat beans on toast in front of the telly?

"Oh, those are the best nights," he replies. "If I didn't have those nights, I really couldn't do any of the rest."

She announced her arrival to a concert by Elton John in Pula´s area, but what surprised the organizers of the festival is that she bought all 50 entrance tickets to the VIP area for that concert. This news will certainly not make other celebrities happy, who intended to enjoy themselves in the VIP area.

Slavica will have no problem setting aside 110,000 kuna for the concert by the legendary English musician in the company of her friends from all around the world. The reason being that after he record quick divorce, which lasted 58 seconds, she gained around one billion pounds.

As Neil Sedaka hits the road again at 70, he vows to bop until he drops

Neil Sedaka was a wideeyed Brooklyn teenager when he got his first taste of pop fame in the late Fifties. Rock 'n' roll was in its infancy, but clean-cut Sedaka was one of its brightest stars, riding high with songs such as Happy Birthday Sweet 16, Calendar Girl and Oh! Carol.

A classically trained pianist and graduate of the Brill Building songwriting 'academy'  -  the New York hit factory that also spawned Burt Bacharach, Carole King, Paul Simon and Neil Diamond  -  he had become a pop sensation after deciding he wanted to be more than just a glorified backroom boy.

Then The Beatles and the Rolling Stones came along and everything changed. They took the U.S. charts by storm and transformed the landscape.

      Neil Sedaka
      Neil Sedaka

Croon prince: Neil Sedaka today (left) and in his early Sixties heyday (right)

Sedaka, barely in his 20s, suddenly seemed old hat. His singing career suffered death by a thousand mop-tops. And it hurt deeply.

But the diminutive 70-year-old sitting opposite me in the lounge of a London hotel is a survivor.

Dressed in a casual jacket and baseball cap, he cuts an unassuming figure, but his mood is as bullish as that of an eager young buck with a debut album to promote.

'As soon as the new British bands arrived, I fell out of favour,' he says, matter-of-factly.

'Pop can be fickle. I found myself without a record deal, and I didn't get another one for 12 years. I had some lean and hungry years, but I never lost faith in my ability.'

As his profile dipped, Sedaka went back to penning tunes for others. He wrote for Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.

He also came up with (Is This The Way To) Amarillo for Sheffield crooner Tony Christie, blissfully unaware that, 34 years later, it would sell more than a million copies, top the charts for seven weeks and win a Guinness Award as one of Britain's biggest singles of the 21st century.

'There are a lot of gifted, talented people out there,' he says. 'But not all of them have the ambition and drive.

'For me, music was more than a hobby. It was a passion, and I followed it with a vengeance. I always knew there was more to come.

'I still wanted to be out in front of the public. It's nice having hits as a songwriter, but it's not the same as actually performing them yourself.'

Sedaka eventually turned his career around in the mid-Seventies and  -  thanks partly to the Peter Kay and Comic Relief-inspired success of Amarillo  -  is still active today.

Next week, he releases The Music Of My Life, his first new album for ten years, and embarks on a major tour that will see him take his one man show to ten British cities.

The piano-based album, which comes with a bonus disc featuring many of his best-known songs, may turn out to be Sedaka's last collection of pop material.

The singer believes that the 11 new tracks, which tell reflective, careworn tales of love and loss, will prove hard for him to top. 'After writing for 57 years, this album is my crowning glory,' he says.

'I'm trying to lay bare all of my inner thoughts, so it's an emotional record.

'It's all about getting things off my chest and down in song. There isn't a cohesive story, because every song is different, but making the album was very cathartic. I don't think I can better it.

'My next move will be to go back to my roots as a classical musician. I've already written a symphony and piano concerto. Classical music gives me more creative freedom.'

Sedaka's resurgence, ironically, began in Britain. In 1972, while he was playing on the cabaret circuit, he was approached by Mancunian musicians who offered to record with him in their Stockport studio. The four-piece went on to become 10cc.

And the two albums they made with Sedaka  -  Solitaire and The Tra-La Days Are Over  -  put the American firmly back on the map with hits such as That's When The Music Takes Me and Love Will Keep Us Together.

Another chance meeting, this time with Elton John at a Bee Gees gig in London, led to a deal with Elton's Rocket Records and even greater success with Laughter In The Rain.

'The mood in the early Seventies was very different,' says Sedaka. 'There were poetic songwriters, such as Cat Stevens and Joni Mitchell, who painted pictures with their music. Some people were still writing me off as a relic from the Fifties, but I knew I could write those more introspective songs. Luckily for me, Elton knew that I could, too.

'He told me he would be my personal PR man, so he went on the radio as "EJ The DJ" and constantly plugged my music. If I'd had to hire him, he'd have been the most expensive PR man in history!'

A few years earlier, Sedaka had co-written Amarillo with lyricist Howard Greenfield. Though he knew it was a good song, he is surprised at the manner in which it has endured.

'It was originally a rough demo on a cassette,' he says. 'Tony Christie's manager came to see me, saying he had a new singer who sounded a bit like Tom Jones. I played him Amarillo and he immediately liked it. I cut a reggae version of it myself, but Tony's was catchier and more upbeat.

'When they revived it in 2005, I thought it was amusing. But then Tony started sending me messages updating me on its progress in the charts. It was totally unexpected, but I guess it's a timeless song; one from the old Brill Building tradition.'

Sedaka, who has been married to his wife, Leba, since 1962, believes that a stable domestic set-up (the couple have two grown-up children) has helped him negotiate the ups and downs of a rollercoaster career.

Now, as he prepares to tour, he is planning his next move. With two classical pieces in the pipeline, he is working on a Jersey Boys-style stage musical, Laughter In The Rain, based on his life and co-written with Beatles and John Lennon biographer Philip Norman.

'With Leba, it was love at first sight,' he says. 'She worked in her mother's hotel and I told my trumpet player I was going to marry that girl. She's been my manager for more than 30 years, so it's like a mom and dad business. We've built an empire together.

'Now, with the new album, I'd like to go out with a bang. As Neil Diamond has shown, age is irrelevant. Why shouldn't a singer of 70 reach the charts? My voice is still in good shape, and I'll keep on singing until it goes.'

o THE Music Of My Life is out next week on Universal. Neil Sedaka's British tour opens at the Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool, on Monday.

I.T (Guitar Institute of Technology).

O álbum póstumo, "Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk", foi lançado em 1998.

Jeffrey Scott Buckley (November 17, 1966 - May 29, 1997), raised as Scotty Moorhead,[1] was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. He was the son of Tim Buckley, also a musician. Buckley gained popularity in the early 1990s by playing cover songs at venues in Manhattan's East Village, such as Sin-é, and he gradually focused more on his own material. After much interest from record labels he signed with Columbia and, after recruiting a band, recorded what would be his only studio album, Grace.

Over the following two years, the band toured widely to promote the album, including concerts in the U.S., Europe, Japan and Australia. In 1997, he stopped touring and moved to Memphis, Tennessee, to experiment with new material for a second album, recording many four-track demos and completing his third recording session for his new album with his band, with Tom Verlaine as producer. While awaiting the arrival of his band from New York, he drowned during an evening swim in the Wolf River. His body was found on June 4, 1997.[2]

Since his death, there have been many posthumous releases of his material, including a collection of four-track demos and studio recordings for his unfinished second album My Sweetheart the Drunk and expansions of debut album Grace and his Live at Sin-é EP. Chart success also came posthumously; with Leonard Cohen's song, "Hallelujah" he attained his first #1 on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs in March 2008 and reached #2 in the UK Singles Chart at Christmas 2008. Buckley and his work continue to remain popular and regularly featured in 'greatest' lists in the music press.[3][4]

His mother was a Panama Canal Zonian of mixed Greek, French, American and Panamanian descent,[5] while his father was the descendant of Irish immigrants from Cork.[6] Buckley was raised by his mother and stepfather, Ron Moorhead, in Southern California, and had a half-brother, Corey Moorhead.[7][8] Buckley moved many times in and around Orange County while growing up with a single mother, an upbringing Buckley called "rootless trailer trash".[9] As a child, Buckley was known as Scott "Scotty" Moorhead based on his middle name and his stepfather's surname.[1] His biological father, Tim Buckley, was a singer-songwriter who released a series of highly acclaimed folk and jazz albums in the late 1960s and early 1970s. However, Buckley said he only met him once at the age of eight years old.[10] After his father died of a drug overdose in 1975,[11] he chose to go by Buckley and his real first name which he found on his birth certificate.[12] To members of his family he remained "Scotty".[13]

Buckley was brought up around music. His mother was a classically trained pianist and cellist.[14] His stepfather introduced him to Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, and Pink Floyd at an early age.[15] Buckley grew up singing around the house and in harmony with his mother,[16] later noting that all his family sang.[17] Buckley began playing guitar at the age of five after discovering an acoustic guitar in his grandmother's closet.[18] Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti was the first album he ever owned;[19] the hard rock band Kiss was also an early favorite.[20] At the age of 12, he decided to become a musician,[19] and received his first electric guitar-a black imitation Gibson Les Paul-at the age of 13.[21] He attended Loara High School,[22] and played in the school's jazz band.[23] During this time, he developed an affinity for progressive rock bands such as Rush, Genesis, and Yes, as well as jazz fusion guitarist Al Di Meola.[24]

After high school graduation he moved north to Hollywood to attend the Musicians Institute,[25] completing the one-year course at the age of 18.[26] Buckley later told Rolling Stone magazine the school was "the biggest waste of time",[19] but noted in an interview with Double Take Magazine that he appreciated studying music theory there, saying, "I was attracted to really interesting harmonies, stuff that I would hear in Ravel, Ellington, Bartók."[27] Musician Ben Harper later lauded Buckley for his imaginative chords and chord progressions.[28]

      [edit] Early career

Buckley spent the next six years working in a hotel and playing guitar in various struggling bands playing in styles from jazz, reggae, and roots rock to heavy metal.[29] He toured with the dancehall reggae artist Shinehead[30] and also played the occasional funk and R&B studio session, collaborating with fledgling producer Michael J. Clouse to form X-Factor Productions.[31] Throughout this period, Buckley limited his singing to backing vocals.

He moved to New York City in February 1990,[32] but found few opportunities to work as a musician. He was introduced to qawwali, the devotional music of Pakistan, and to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, one of its best-known singers.[33] Buckley was an impassioned fan of Khan,[34] and during his cafe days, he had often covered Khan's songs. In January 1996, he interviewed Khan for Interview magazine and wrote liner notes for Khan's Supreme Collection, Vol. 1 compilation.[35] Buckley also became interested in blues legend Robert Johnson and hardcore punk band Bad Brains during this time.[15] Buckley moved back to Los Angeles in September when his father's former manager, Herb Cohen, offered to help him record his first demo of original songs. Buckley completed Babylon Dungeon Sessions, a four song cassette that included the songs "Eternal Life", "Unforgiven" (later titled "Last Goodbye"), "Strawberry Street" (a different version of which appears on the Grace Legacy Edition), and punk screamer "Radio".[36] Cohen and Buckley hoped to attract attention from the music industry with the demo tape.[37]

Buckley flew back to New York early the following year to make his public singing debut at a tribute concert for his father called "Greetings from Tim Buckley".[38] The event, produced by show business veteran Hal Willner, was held at St. Ann's Church in Brooklyn on April 26, 1991.[38] Buckley rejected the idea of the concert as a springboard to his career, instead citing personal reasons regarding his decision to sing at the tribute.[39] With accompaniment by experimental rock guitarist Gary Lucas, Jeff performed "I Never Asked To Be Your Mountain", a song Tim Buckley wrote about an infant Jeff Buckley and his mother.[40] Buckley returned to the stage to play "Sefronia - The King's Chain", "Phantasmagoria in Two", and concluded the concert with "Once I Was" performed acoustically with an impromptu a cappella ending, due to a snapped guitar string.[40] Willner, the show's organiser, later recalled that Buckley's set closer made a strong impression.[41] Buckley's performance at the concert was counter-intuitive to his desire to distance himself musically from his father. Buckley later explained his reasoning to Rolling Stone: "It wasn't my work, it wasn't my life. But it bothered me that I hadn't been to his funeral, that I'd never been able to tell him anything. I used that show to pay my last respects."[19] The concert proved to be his first step into the music industry that had eluded him for years.[42]

On subsequent trips to New York in mid-1991, Buckley began co-writing with Gary Lucas resulting in the songs "Grace" and "Mojo Pin",[43] and by late 1991 he began performing with Lucas' band Gods and Monsters around New York City.[44] After being offered a development deal as a member of Gods and Monsters at Imago Records, Buckley moved back to New York to the Lower East Side at the end of 1991.[45] The day after Gods and Monsters officially debuted in March 1992, Buckley decided to leave the band.[46]

Buckley began performing at several clubs and cafés around Lower Manhattan,[47] but Sin-é in the East Village became his main venue.[15] Buckley first appeared at the small Irish café in April 1992,[48] and quickly earned a regular Monday night slot there.[49] His repertoire consisted of a diverse range of folk, rock, R&B, blues and jazz cover songs, much of it music he had newly learned. Through their music, singers such as Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Van Morrison, and Judy Garland became his teachers.[50] Buckley performed an eclectic selection of covers from a range of artists from Led Zeppelin, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Bob Dylan, Édith Piaf, Elton John, The Smiths, Bad Brains, Leonard Cohen, Robert Johnson[36][49][50] and Siouxsie Sioux.[51][52] Original songs from the Babylon Dungeon Sessions, and the songs he'd written with Gary Lucas were also included in his set lists.[50] He performed solo, accompanying himself on a borrowed Fender Telecaster.[48] Buckley stated that playing to small audiences enabled him to learn how to be a performer.[10]

Over the next few months, Buckley attracted admiring crowds and attention from record label executives.[53] Industry maven Clive Davis even dropped by to see him.[10] By the summer of 1992, limos from executives eager to sign the singer lined the street outside Sin-é.[53] Buckley signed with Columbia Records, home of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen,[54] for a three-album, essentially million-dollar deal in October 1992.[55] Recording dates were set for July and August 1993 for what would become Buckley's recording debut, an EP of four songs which included a cover of Van Morrison's "The Way Young Lovers Do".[56] Live at Sin-é was released on November 23, 1993, documenting this period of Buckley's life.[57]

      [edit] Grace

In mid 1993, Buckley began working on his first album with record producer Andy Wallace, who had mixed Nirvana's multi-platinum album Nevermind. Buckley assembled a band, composed of bassist Mick Grondahl and drummer Matt Johnson, and spent several weeks rehearsing.[58][59] In September, the trio headed to Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, New York to spend six weeks recording basic tracks for what would become Grace. Buckley invited ex-bandmate Lucas to play guitar on the songs "Grace" and "Mojo Pin", and Woodstock-based jazz musician Karl Berger wrote and conducted string arrangements with Buckley assisting at times.[60] Buckley returned home for overdubbing at studios in Manhattan and New Jersey where he performed take after take to capture the perfect vocals and experimented with ideas for additional instruments, and added textures to the songs.[61]

In January 1994, Buckley left to go on his first solo North American tour to support Live at Sin-é.[61] It was followed by a 10-day European tour in March.[62] Buckley played clubs and coffeehouses and made in-store appearances.[61] After returning, Buckley invited guitarist Michael Tighe to join the band and a collaboration between the two resulted in "So Real", a song which was recorded as a late addition to the album.[63][64] In June, Buckley began his first full band tour called the "Peyote Radio Theatre Tour" that lasted into August.[65] Pretender Chrissie Hynde,[66] Soundgarden's Chris Cornell, and The Edge from U2[67] were among the attendees of these early shows.

Grace was released on August 23, 1994. In addition to seven original songs, the album included three covers: "Lilac Wine", based on the version by Nina Simone;[50] "Corpus Christi Carol", from Benjamin Britten's A Boy Was Born, Op.3, a composition that Buckley was introduced to in high school, based on a 15th century hymn;[68] and "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, based on John Cale's recording from the Cohen tribute album, I'm Your Fan.[50] Buckley's rendition of "Hallelujah" has been called "Buckley's best" and "one of the great songs"[69] by Time magazine, and is included on Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".[70]

Sales of Grace were slow and it garnered little radio airplay, despite critical acclaim.[71] The Sydney Morning Herald proclaimed it "a romantic masterpiece" and a "pivotal, defining work".[72] Despite slow initial sales the album went gold in France and Australia over the next two years,[65] achieving gold status in the U.S. in 2002,[73] and selling over six times platinum in Australia in 2006.[74]

Grace won appreciation from a host of revered musicians, including members of Buckley's biggest influence, Led Zeppelin.[75] Jimmy Page considered Grace close to being his "favorite album of the decade".[76] Robert Plant was also complimentary.[77] Others who had influenced Buckley's music lauded him:[78] Bob Dylan named Buckley "one of the great songwriters of this decade",[77] and, in an interview with Village Voice, David Bowie named Grace as one of the ten albums he would take with him to a desert island.[79] The album eventually went on to feature in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2003, appearing at #303.[80]

      [edit] Concert tours

Buckley spent much of the next year and a half touring internationally to promote Grace. From the album's release, he played in numerous countries, from Australia, to the UK (Glastonbury Festival and the Meltdown Festival at the invitation of Elvis Costello).[81] Following Buckley's Peyote Radio Theater tour, the band began a European tour on August 23, 1994, starting with performances in the UK and Ireland. The tour continued in Scandinavia and, throughout September, numerous concerts in Germany were played. The tour ended on September 22 with a concert in Paris. A gig on September 24 in New York dovetailed on to the end of the European tour and Buckley and band spent the next month relaxing and rehearsing.[82]

A tour of Canada and the U.S. began on October 19, 1994 at renowned, and now defunct, venue CBGB's. The tour was far reaching with concerts held on both east and west coasts of the U.S., and a number of performances in central and southern states. The tour ended two months later on December 18 at Maxwell's in New Jersey.[82] After another month of rest and rehearsal, the band commenced a second European tour, this time mainly for promotion purposes. The band began the tour in Dublin, Ireland; Buckley has remained particularly popular in Ireland to this day.[83] The short tour largely consisted of promotional work in London and Paris.

In late January, the band did their first tour of Japan, playing concerts and appearing for promotion of the album and newly released Japanese single "Last Goodbye". The band returned to Europe on February 6 and toured various Western European countries before returning to the U.S. on March 6. Amongst the gigs performed during this period, Buckley and his band performed at a 19th century built French venue, the Bataclan, and material from the concert was recorded and later released in October of that year as a four track EP, Live from the Bataclan. Also, songs from a performance on February 25, at the venue Nighttown in Rotterdam, were subsequently released as a promotional-only CD, So Real.

Touring recommenced in April with dates across the U.S. and Canada. During this period Buckley and the band notably played Metro in Chicago, which was recorded on video and later released as Live in Chicago on VHS and later on DVD. In addition, on June 4 they played at Sony Music Studios for the Sony Music radio hour. Following this was a month long European tour between June 20 and July 18 in which they played many summer music festivals. During the tour, Buckley played two concerts at the Paris Olympia, a venue made famous by the French vocalist Édith Piaf, that he considered the finest performances of his career. Shortly after this Buckley attended the Festival de la Musique Sacrée (Festival of Sacred Music), also held in France, and performed "What Will You Say" as a duet with Alim Qasimov, an Azerbaijani mugham singer. Sony BMG has since released a live album, 2001's Live a L'Olympia, which has a selection of songs from both Olympia performances and the collaboration with Qasimov.

Buckley's Mystery White Boy tour, playing concerts in both Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, lasted between August 28 and September 6 and recordings of these performances were compiled and released on the live album Mystery White Boy. Buckley was so well received during these concerts that his album Grace went gold in Australia, selling over 35,000 copies, and taking this into account he decided a longer tour was needed and returned for a tour of New Zealand and Australia in February the following year.[65]

Between the two Oceanian tours Buckley and the band took a break from touring. Buckley played solo in the meantime with concerts at Sin-é and a New Year's Eve concert at Mercury Lounge in New York.[82] After the break, the band spent the majority of February on the Hard Luck Tour in Australia and New Zealand, but tensions had risen between the group and drummer Matt Johnson. The concert on March 1, 1996 was the last gig he played with Buckley and his band.[65]

Much of the material from the tours of 1995 and 1996 was recorded and released on either promotional EPs, such as the Grace EP, or posthumously on albums, such as Mystery White Boy (a reference to Buckley not using his real name) and Live a L'Olympia. Many of the other concerts Buckley played during this period have surfaced on bootleg recordings.[84]

Following Johnson's departure, the band, now without a drummer, was put on hold and did not perform live again until February 12, 1997.[85] Due to the pressure from extensive touring, Buckley spent the majority of the year away from the stage. However, from May 2 to May 5 he played a short stint as bass guitarist with Mind Science of the Mind, with friend Nathan Larson, then guitarist of Shudder to Think.[65] Buckley returned to playing live concerts when he went on his "phantom solo tour" of cafés in the Northeast in December 1996, appearing under a series of aliases: The Crackrobats, Possessed by Elves, Father Demo, Smackrobiotic, The Halfspeeds, Crit-Club, Topless America, Martha & the Nicotines, and A Puppet Show Named Julio.[82] By way of justification, Buckley posted a note on his Internet site stating that he missed the anonymity of playing in cafes and local bars:

There was a time in my life not too long ago when I could show up in a cafe and simply do what I do, make music, learn from performing my music, explore what it means to me, i.e., have fun while I irritate and/or entertain an audience who don't know me or what I am about. In this situation I have that precious and irreplaceable luxury of failure, of risk, of surrender. I worked very hard to get this kind of thing together, this work forum. I loved it and then I missed it when it disappeared. All I am doing is reclaiming it.[86]

[edit] Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk

After completing touring in 1996, Buckley started to write for a new album to be called My Sweetheart the Drunk. Buckley worked with Patti Smith on her 1996 album Gone Again and met fellow collaborater Tom Verlaine, an ex-Television member. Buckley asked Verlaine to be producer on the new album and he agreed.[87] In the middle of 1996, Buckley and his band began recording sessions in Manhattan with Verlaine. Eric Eidel played the drums through these sessions as a stop-gap between the dates drummer Matt Johnson left and before Parker Kindred joined as full-time drummer.[88] Around this time Buckley worked on Kerouac: Kicks Joy Darkness, a Jack Kerouac tribute album, with Nymphs member Inger Lorre.[87] After this collaboration, Buckley struck up a friendship with Lorre and subsequently recorded a cover of The Nymphs' song "Yard of Blonde Girls" with her; this recording later appeared on Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk. Another recording session in Manhattan followed in early 1997, but Buckley and the band were unsatisfied and the album was not considered finished.

On February 4, 1997, Buckley played a live concert at The Knitting Factory featuring a selection of his new songs: "Jewel Box", "Morning Theft", "Everybody Here Wants You", "The Sky is a Landfill" and "Yard of Blonde Girls". Lou Reed was there to watch and expressed an interest in working with Buckley.[79] The band played their first gig with Parker Kindred, their new drummer, at Arlene's Grocery in New York on February 9. This set featured much of Buckley's new material that would appear on Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk and a recording has become one of Buckley's most widely distributed bootlegs.[89] Later that month, Buckley recorded a spoken word reading of the Edgar Allan Poe poem, "Ulalume", for the album Closed on Account of Rabies.[90] This would be his last recording in New York; shortly after, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee.

Buckley became interested in recording at Easley McCain Recording in Memphis, at the suggestion of friend Dave Shouse from the Grifters.[91] He rented a shotgun house there, of which he was so fond he contacted the owner about the possibility of buying it.[92] Throughout this period, February 12 to May 26, 1997, Buckley played at Barristers', a bar located in downtown Memphis underneath a parking garage in an alley off of Jefferson Avenue. He played numerous times in order to work through the new material in a live atmosphere, at first with band and then solo as part of a Monday night residency.[93] In early February, Buckley and the band did a third recording session with Verlaine, in Memphis, but Buckley expressed his dissatisfaction with the sessions and later called Grace producer, Andy Wallace, to step in as Verlaine's replacement.[87] Buckley started recording demos on his own 4-track recorder in preparation for a forthcoming session with Wallace.[87] Some of these demos were sent to his band in New York, who listened to them enthusiastically, and were excited to resume working on the album. These recordings would go on to compose the first disc of Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk. However Buckley was not entirely happy with the results and he sent his band back to New York while he stayed behind to work on the songs. The band were scheduled to return to Memphis for more recording sessions on May 29.

      [edit] Death

On the evening of May 29, 1997, Buckley's band flew in intending to join him in his Memphis studio to work on the newly written material. That same evening, Buckley went swimming in Wolf River Harbor,[94] a slackwater channel of the Mississippi River, while wearing boots, all of his clothing, and singing the chorus of the song "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin.[95] A roadie of Buckley's band, Keith Foti, remained ashore. After moving the radio and a guitar out of reach of the wake from a passing tugboat, Foti looked up to see that Buckley was gone. Despite a determined rescue effort that night, Buckley remained missing. On June 4, his body was spotted by a tourist on a riverboat and was brought ashore.[95]

The autopsy to clarify the cause of Buckley's death confirmed Buckley had taken no illegal drugs before his swim and a drug overdose was therefore ruled out as cause of death.[96] In order to clarify the situation of his death, this statement was released from the Buckley estate:

Jeff Buckley's death was not "mysterious," related to drugs, alcohol, or suicide. We have a police report, a medical examiner's report, and an eye witness to prove that it was an accidental drowning, and that Mr. Buckley was in a good frame of mind prior to the accident.[97]

      [edit] Legacy

After Buckley's death, a collection of demo recordings and a full-length album he had been reworking for his second album were released as Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk-the compilation being overseen by his mother, Mary Guibert, band members and old friend Michael J. Clouse, as well as Chris Cornell. The album achieved gold sales in Australia in 1998.[98] Three other albums composed of live recordings have also been released, along with a live DVD of a performance in Chicago. A previously unreleased 1992 recording of "I Shall Be Released", sung by Buckley over the phone on live radio, was released on the album For New Orleans.

Since his passing Buckley has been the subject of numerous documentaries: Fall in Light, a 1999 production for French TV, Goodbye and Hello, a program about Buckley and his father produced for Netherlands TV in 2000 and Everybody Here Wants You, a documentary made in 2002 by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). An hour long documentary about Buckley called Amazing Grace: Jeff Buckley has been shown at various film festivals to critical acclaim.[99] The film is scheduled to be released worldwide on June 2, 2009 by Sony BMG Legacy as part of the Grace Around The World Deluxe Edition. Director Brian Jun has announced plans to make a film biography of Buckley, in cooperation with his mother. It is to be called Mystery White Boy. Buckley's mother and Michelle Sy are producing the film, but, as of 2008, the project has not progressed beyond the scripting stage and no one has been cast in the role of Buckley.[100][101] A separate project involving the book Dream Brother was allegedly cancelled.[102]

Buckley's premature death inspired many artists he knew or influenced to write songs in tribute to the late singer. PJ Harvey knew him personally and in the song "Memphis" she takes lines from a song on his unfinished album, "Morning Theft", and in her own words reflects on Buckley's death: "In Memphis...die suddenly, at a wonderful age, we're ready to go".[103] Rufus Wainwright, whose career had barely started when he met Buckley, wrote "Memphis Skyline" in tribute to him, singing "then came hallelujah sounding like Ophelia, for me in my room living, turn back and you will stay, under the Memphis Skyline".[104] Wainwright has also recorded his own version of "Hallelujah", which appeared on the soundtrack for the movie Shrek. Duncan Sheik also wrote and recorded the song "A Body Goes Down", from his 1998 album Humming, in direct response to Buckley's death.[105] Willie Nile´s On The Road To Calvary from his 1994 album Beautiful Wreck Of The World was written as a tribute to Buckley.

Thom Yorke, the singer of English alternative rock band Radiohead, saw Jeff Buckley live during the recording sessions of the band's second album, "The Bends". He claimed that Buckley's performance had a direct impact on his vocal delivery in "Fake Plastic Trees".[citation needed]

2007 marked the 10th anniversary of Jeff Buckley's death. His life and music were celebrated globally in May and June of that year with tributes in Australia,[106] Canada, England, France, Iceland, Israel, Ireland,[107] Macedonia, Portugal and the U.S.[108][109][110] Many of Buckley's family members attended the various tribute concerts across the globe, some of which they helped organize. There are two annual Jeff Buckley tribute events: the Chicago based Uncommon Ground, featuring a three day concert schedule, and the Australian based Fall In Light.[111] The latter event is run by the Fall In Light Foundation which in addition to the concerts runs a "Guitars for Schools" program.[112] The name of the foundation is taken from the lyrics of Buckley's "New Year's Prayer".

On March 7, 2008, Buckley´s version of the Leonard Cohen song, "Hallelujah", went to No. 1 on the iTunes chart, selling 178,000 downloads for the week, after being performed by Jason Castro on the seventh season of the television series American Idol.[113] The song debuted at #1 that week on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart, giving Buckley his first #1 on any Billboard chart.

In a similar vein, the 2008 UK X Factor winner, Alexandra Burke, released a cover of "Hallelujah" with the intent to top the UK Singles Chart as the Christmas number one single. Buckley fans countered this, launching a campaign with the aim of propelling Buckley's version to the number one spot. The campaign picked up support through social network websites and it soon spread to the mainstream media.[114] Buckley's version of the song entered the UK charts at #49 on November 30 and by December 21 it had reached #2; in spite of the fact that it had not been released in a physical format.[115][116]

Denied: Elton John Refuses To Let 'Brüno' Use "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" From 'The Lion King'

Elton John is friends with Eminem so he gets "playing characters" in art and statement-driven satire, right? [photos in this piece from GQ]

Hmm.... When we saw footage of Sacha Baron Cohen's paralytically funny,
"Brüno" at SXSW (or at least the 20-something minutes of footage we saw was that funny, we can't speak to the whole thing yet), there was one scene that was set in an Ultimate Fighting Championship face-off match.

We wrote, "At this point in the film, Cohen’s once ostentatiously homosexual reporter has turned militaristically heterosexual and has created a UFC-like show called “Dave’s MAX Out,” giving us our first peek at Straight Dave, the newly invented Brüno. Mustachioed, hirsute and decked out in camouflage gear and an outback hat, Straight Dave parades around the ring to AC/DC’s “Back in Black,” while male spectators cheer him on."

Suffice to say the scene goes poorly for the audience and awesome for all of us. "Th
en the footage takes a spectacular turn for the worse (better). Think of the scene in “Borat” in which Cohen sings the National Anthem at a Virginia rodeo to an audience that is with him initially and calling for his blood by the end. Brüno is suddenly called out during his show as a “faggot,” and an appalled Straight Dave challenges the person who yelled that to step into the ring and fight him. We’re not really meant to know who his challenger is, but clearly, it’s his ex-boyfriend. They violently fight, pummeling each other bloody, but eventually the former couple, as you can probably guess, patches things up, passionately making out and groping each other to the sounds of Elton John’s 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight.' ”

Ca va, right? A pivotal funny as shit scene that is one for the ages. However, according to the New York Times, the use of that song — made famous for its use in Disney's “The Lion King ” — was denied. "Mr. John, along with the Walt Disney Company, which owns the copyright to the song but seeks his approval in such matters, learned of the scene’s particulars and blanched, according to one of Mr. John’s advisers," wrote the Times.

John apparently had some kind of sense of humor as he sort of reversed his decision. "He didn’t want to be associated with the provocative scene, but he ultimately agreed to perform part of another song that functions as a coda to the film," the paper said.

Hmm, that sucks. And guaranteed not as funny, but this is what happens when you push buttons this hard or in Baron Cohen's case, hitting all the elevator buttons once and laughing mercilessly; someone's going to recoil.

But not the entire gay community is against, or semi-against "Brüno" dubious or well-intentioned satire gone possibly wrong. “The multiplex crowd wouldn’t normally sit down for a two-hour lecture on homophobia, but that’s exactly what’s going to happen. I’m excited about that,” relished Aaron Hicklin, the editor of Out magazine, to the NYT. Others are wisely waiting to comment when they actually see the film. “Sadly, I haven’t seen the film yet!.” "Milk" screenwriter, Dustin Lance Black said.

BTW, in the current issue of GQ, when answering reader questions like, "who are the other best-dressed world leaders of all time?" "
Brüno answers "JFK. Obama. Castro. Timberlake." Yeah, it's a guffaw and not that funny, which honestly worries us a little bit about the film. Maybe the comedy just doesn't translate in a Q&A.

Virgin Media And Universal Plan Music Download Service

      http://beatcrave.com/2009-06-15/virgin-media-and-universal-plan-music-download-service/

      virginmedia460-jh

In a new attempt to thwart illegal file-sharers, Virgin Media is preparing to launch an unlimited, DRM-free music subscription service in the UK in partnership with Universal Music; the service could be up and running by the end of the year and would allow broadband customers to stream and download all the music they want, and keep the songs from Universal’s catalog.

The Virgin Media deal with Universal is not the first unlimited music download subscription service to be set in motion, but it certainly has heads turning over the scope of the deal and size of the market involved.

Virgin’s broadband customers will pay an additional monthly subscription fee of “less than the cost of downloading a couple of digital albums,” said Neil Berkett, chief executive of Virgin Media. The music will be in MP3 format and most likely will cost somewhere between 10 to 15 pounds ($16.30 to $24.50) per month.

A cheaper service will be available for those who only want to download a few times a month. Users of the service are able to downloaded tracks on any MP3 player, and will be able to keep them – even if they cancel the subscription.

The announcement precedes this week’s publication of the Digital Britain white paper by Lord Carter, which is expected to contain measures to address illegal downloading of music and film.

“Government has a role in creating the right legal and regulatory framework for rights and copyright,” said Lord Carter. “However, the market will flourish through innovative commercial agreements between companies, and agreements such as this will help significantly in reducing any demand for piracy.”

The IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) welcomed news of the deal:

“This is the kind of partnership between a music company and an ISP that is going to shape the future for the music business internationally,” said IFPI Chairman and CEO John Kennedy. “It epitomizes the way in which the music business is adapting to the digital world, embracing new business models and responding to the changing needs of consumers. It also marks new ground in ISPs’ willingness to take steps to protect copyrighted content on their networks, and that sets a very encouraging example to the whole industry.”

Artists signed with Universal Music include Amy Winehouse, U2, Elton John, Rolling Stones and James Morrison.

Virgin is also in early talks with the other three major music labels, plus various indie labels, to get their catalogs incorporated the new service.

What do you think of this fee-based download plan? Will it help slow down illegal file sharing?

Would you be willing to pay an extra fee every month to stream and download as much music as you want from the Universal catalog?

Virgin e Universal oferecem downloads ilimitados

      Redação SRZD - Esquina da Música | Música | 16/06/2009 12:57

Virgin e Universal oferecem downloads ilimitados

O sistema deve começar a funcionar antes do Natal deste ano.

      Elton John News

      Bristol Review

      Posted: 15 Jun 2009 09:04 AM PDT

All roads led to Ashley Down on Saturday night, as thousands of Elton John fans made their way to Gloucestershire County Cricket Club to see the world-famous star play the first ever-concert on the ground.

This was a concert for people of all ages. There were mums and dads with their young children, groups of students, 30-somethings wearing pink cowboy hats with frivolous abandon, and grey-haired music lovers who could dance with the best of them.

In Nevil Road, unofficial temporary stalls had been set up that were doing a brisk trade in ponchos as the rain began to fall at about 6pm, but then returned to selling glow sticks, bunny ears and the aforementioned pink cowboy hats, one of which was thrown onstage and Sir Elton placed on his grand piano for most of the night before wearing it for Your Song, the last song of the night.

"I've never looked so butch," he joked, before saying that it would form part of next season's kit for Watford, the football club where he is honorary life president.

There were a few Watford kits among the crowd, and these yellow shirts were among the less colourful outfits that included feather boas, wigs, oversize glasses (some of which also started flashing as the night drew in) and, of course, the cowboy hats in a variety of outlandish colours.

Most of the 10,000 fans sat on the outfield of the ground, with seats placed directly onto the grass, which felt like a carpet underfoot it was so pristine.

Above our heads, several hot air balloons glided serenely past as support act Richard Fleeshman played. Back on terra firma, Sir Elton and his band were dwarfed by the huge stage, and for those who could not see the musicians, two giant screens on either side broadcast live footage, including from a camera on Sir Elton's piano that showed just what a phenomenal player he is.

The sound was crisp, the songs were note-perfect, and Sir Elton sung them all with passion and vigour.

The drama queen also endeared himself to his many fans by taking several minutes to sign many items handed to him by audience members as he returned to for the encore.

One of the few gripes on the night were the long queues for food and drink, some of which were well over half-an-hour long.

There was also plenty of work for the stewards, who were told to get everybody standing up to sit down, before their job was made redundant as the sun set and every single member of the crowd had risen to their feet.

Many of the more adventurous fans were standing from the start, and it was a game of cat and mouse, as the stewards told them to sit down as they were blocking the view of people behind them, they sat down, and then stood up again as the stewards walked away.

Fans embraced the concert for what it was – an evening of high camp with timeless pop songs that span generations.

And to keep that memory fresh, for sale after the concert was a CD of the show, ready for collection mere minutes after the closing bars of Your Song, as the fireworks exploded in the night sky above Ashley Down.

Saturday night will be all right for rock and roll as superstar Elton John arrives in Bristol tonight.

For the first time in five years, the singer who has sold more than 200 million albums and had more than 50 top 40 hits, will perform in the city to an audience of thousands.
A 200-tonne stage has been set up at Gloucestershire Cricket Ground, Nevil Road, and organisers say there has been a buzz of excitement.
Kevin Ashley, commercial manager at the grounds, said: "This is the first concert we have ever held and it is a real achievement for us and for Bristol.
"The city doesn't have a dedicated venue for music events on this scale and to have a world superstar like Sir Elton John playing is fantastic."
While most of the audience will sit on seats on the pitch, some will watch Sir Elton from the permanent stands at the ground. A cover will protect the turf.
"The square is being protected by Supertrack and the company organising the event have done a fantastic job," Mr Ashley said.
"They have done concerts at cricket grounds in Worcester and Somerset so they know what they are doing and cricket fans don't need to worry."
He added: "All the hard work has been done now so its just a case of putting the final touches together and hoping it all goes smoothly. Everyone is really excited as this is such a change for us, in the last 36 hours there has been a definite buzz in the air, we've got Sir Elton arriving."
Mr Ashley said the event could pave the way for future music concerts depending on its success.
Tickets for the concert, costing from £40 to £80, are still available. They can be bought from Ticketmaster by visiting www.ticketmaster.co.uk or calling 0844 847 1581.
There is no parking at the ground, but there are two park and ride schemes - one in north Bristol at the UWE Frenchay campus and another in the south, at the A4 Portway.

Sir Elton John ready to rock Holkham

      Elton John - Norfolk gig
      Elton John - Norfolk gig
The Rocket Man is about to fly in to Norfolk - and about 15,000 people are excitedly waiting to welcome him!

Music legend Sir Elton John will perform in the grounds of Holkham Hall, near Wells, on Sunday at a picnic-style concert and returning to the county four years after he thrilled an audience at Norwich City's Carrow Road ground.

Lord Coke, who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the estate and its hall, said: "It is amazing that Holkham is to host a concert by such a worldwide star as Sir Elton John. We said last year that we were not putting on open air concerts because we couldn't get the performers of the quality we wanted and I think that Elton John's show vindicates that view."

The concert - taking place to the north of the hall to the far side of the cricket pitch - gets underway at 5pm when former Coronation Street actor-turned singer Richard Fleeshman takes to the stage for the opening set.

Sir Elton is due on at about 6pm and will entertain the crowds over the next two-and-a-half hours with a selection of his classic hit songs.

The concert takes place within the stunning surroundings of Holkham Hall. The actual concert venue will be to the north of the Hall, to the far side of the cricket pitch.

Tickets will be available on the day from the event box office (access only from the south and west car parks) priced at £60 and they can only be paid for with cash.

Concert-goers are advised to follow the yellow AA signs which will direct them into the park from approach roads to the village. There will be three entrance and exit gates, North, South and West, all clearly sign-posted on the approach roads. Drop-offs and pick-ups and vehicles for VIPs and for disabled parking must enter the park by the North gate in Holkham village

Access to the park will be from 12 noon and the concert arena will be open from 3pm. Car parking is free,

Parking stewards will direct car drivers to designated free parking areas within the park.

People are advised to bring their own chairs and rugs. The furthest distance you will have to walk with chairs and picnic hampers is about 600 metres.

Windbreaks, tented structures and gazebos will not be allowed into the arena.

For security reasons, metal cutlery, knives, glasses will not be permitted in the concert arena although bottles of wine and champagne will be allowed. Bag searches will take place at the entrance to the arena. People can take in plastic cutlery and plastic drinks containers.

To ensure that everyone can see the performers on stage there will be three large screens set among the auditorium.

Although taking photographs for personal use is allowed, there will be restrictions on 'professional' cameras being used.

Supt Dave Marshall, responsible for police cover in North Norfolk, said: "We will have eight police officers on duty on the day and we have contingency plans in the event of any sort of anti-social behaviour incidents happening at the venue or its surroundings."

After the show, BBC Radio Norfolk will broadcast a special show featuring tracks from the concert and a phone-in for listeners to call with their experiences and thoughts about the show.

Concert-goers will be able to take home a CD of a live recording of the Holkham concert which they can play on the way home.

More information about the Elton John concert at Holkham is available by visiting www.marshall-arts.com

      Guten Morgen liebe Elton Fans,

      Ralf

Fun times: But Elton John won't be partying with Labour

Now Sir Elton John and friends abandon PM as Labour gala fails to sell out

      Joe Murphy
      11.06.09

Labour has failed to sell out a gala fundraising dinner with Gordon Brown tonight, casting more questions over the Prime Minister's future.

The major event was meant to attract 300 VIP guests paying £500 a head and the party hoped that rock legend Elton John would attend.
However, Sir Elton was unable to accept and a party source revealed to the Standard: "They cannot get rid of all the tickets and are having to give some away and offer cut-price deals on others.
"The whole thing is looking like a disaster but the party is contracted with the venue to go ahead." The Tories' Black and White ball was a huge success, by contrast, raising £485,000 for David Cameron.
Any sign that Labour can no longer count on wealthy supporters and big companies to fill its coffers will increase the pressure on Mr Brown.
A spokesman for Sir Elton said he had been unable to fit the event into his diary. "His diary is booked up 18 months ahead," he said.
It comes at a time that MPs are talking increasingly seriously about ousting Mr Brown in the autumn and fighting a May 2010 election under a new leader.
One senior MP said: "People are determined to do it. I do not believe Gordon Brown will lead us at the next election."
The Prime Minister will tomorrow attempt to rally his Cabinet with a plan to fight for an historic fourth term.
With Lord Mandelson, he will brief ministers at a special three-hour session on the Building Britain's Future document, setting out plans to overcome the slump and for economic recovery.
Gordon Brown was today accused of packing the Lords with his cronies.
The Prime Minister, who has unveiled a package of constitutional reforms, has given peerages to 10 individuals so they can become ministers.
Shadow justice secretary Dominic Grieve said: "How can the public take his calls for reform seriously when he is currently filling the Lords with appointees and his Government with unelected ministers?"

      Gig review: Elton John

      Published Date: 12 June 2009
      ELTON JOHN
      **
      SECC, GLASGOW
AS WITH many veteran artists, there is a formula for an Elton John show. He will wear something gaudy, point at individual members of the audience, at least attempt to climb on his piano and regularly go walkabout to press the flesh with the front ro

ws. He will also systematically tick off all the most obvious favourites from his back catalogue (so no Nikita then) with an efficient sense of duty.

In Glasgow, even a lesser- known track - Skyline Pigeon from his debut album Empty Sky - was performed because of a fan request. So if turning up and playing the hits is all that is required to keep the audience happy, so be it. This being Scotland, a Saltire flag was added to the mix.

But this was a poor performance. Unlike, say, Leonard Cohen, age does not become Sir Elton. He can no longer scale the vocal range of his younger self, leaving percussionist John Mahon to deal with those tricky high notes. Fair enough, it happens. But his vocal tone was often ugly and unsuited to tremulous ballads such as Sacrifice and Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word, both of which were just painful.

The large screens did him and his leathery band of "seasoned" musicians no favours, although one had to admire Edinburgh-born guitarist Davey Johnstone's meticulously tonged locks and drummer Nigel Olsson's customised drum kit and matching shocking-pink shirt ensemble. Less admirable was their collusion in the blaring arrangements that robbed the set of any subtlety or dynamic.

Tiny Dancer was not as lithe as it once was, but at least Bennie and the Jets is supposed to be strident. An extended Rocket Man, meanwhile, exemplified the best and worst of the set, degenerating from creative early 70s odyssey to tedious pub rocker - a metaphor for Elton John's career, perhaps?

Jimmy Choo have announced the launch of Project PEP with the Elton John AIDS Foundation. This project is designed to support the funding of the Simelela centre in South Africa. The vibrant capsule collection features a distinctive and collectible punk rock motif print representing Jimmy Choo´s passionate and individualist spirit.

This cause has particular resonance for Jimmy Choo because of its support and empowerment of women.

In 2005 Jimmy Choo Founder and President Tamara Mellon worked with the Elton John AIDS Foundation on a charity auction project "Four Inches‟ that assisted with the first funding of the Simelela centre; "We are women helping women and we are proud to continue our collaboration with the compelling and urgent initiatives of the Elton John AIDS Foundation and to provide a voice for under-privileged women in South Africa." Tamara Mellon, Founder & President, Jimmy Choo.

Jimmy Choo will donate 25% of the net sales from Project PEP. With this funding, the Elton John AIDS Foundation can directly support the pioneering Simelela Rape Centre in Cape Town that was set up in 2008 with the mission to administer victims of abuse with the vital HIV preventative PEP medication (Post Exposure Prophylaxis) and provide the infrastructure for medical, counseling and legal support.

The Jimmy Choo Project PEP collection of tote bags, clutches, ballet flats, signature heels and flip flops will be available in Jimmy Choo stores worldwide. The limited edition will launch in November 2009 with dedicated windows and a comprehensive print and online campaign in the brand's signature visual language, featuring model Angela Lindvall and shot by photographer Terry Richardson.

A waiting list will be available from 1st September on www.jimmychoo.com.

NOW SIR ELTON ABANDONS PM BUT LEAVES HIM "STILL STANDING" - BUT ONLY JUST

The London Evening Standard has revealed Labour has failed to sell out a gala fundraising dinner with Gordon Brown tonight; apparently no one wants a "night on town" with our Gordon. The newspapers have claimed that it is further evidence of his present unpopularity amongst members the public and the party.
The major event was meant to attract 300 VIP guests paying £500 a head and the party hoped that rock legend Elton John would attend.
However, Sir Elton was unable to accept and a party source revealed: "That they cannot get rid of all the tickets and are having to give some away and offer cut-price deals on others", he said.

The Prime Minister will tomorrow attempt to rally his Cabinet with a plan to fight for an historic fourth term.
I understand that instead of Elton topping the bill; Gordon is going to sing a special solo to his former minister, James Purnell - "I am still standing":
Don´t you know I´m still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I´m still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
