Research Assistant: UK Pounds 24,570 - 27,320 per annum
Research Associate: UK Pounds 28,060 - 35,800 per annum
Note: There will be a 3% salary increase in May 2008

The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer
Science among the UK Universities. It has consistently been awarded
the highest research rating (5*) in Research Assessment Exercises and
was rated as "Excellent" in the previous national assessment of
teaching quality.
We have a number of exciting new positions to work on projects in
distributed, mobile and pervasive systems. Applicants with a
research background in the following areas will be preferred:
* Security, trust and privacy.
* Programming techniques for mobile phones, wireless sensors,
RFID, vehicles.
* Location and context-awareness. Self-organising systems.
* Formal methods for analysis, planning and refinement in
rule-based systems.
* Policy specification and enforcement.
* Systems and network management, workflow management systems
* Data management.
* Machine learning and decision support.
The posts will be split between three projects, funded by EPSRC and
the EU and the aim of the posts is to produce independent and
original research relating to aspects of security, trust, privacy,
mobile and pervasive systems. You will also be expected to produce
software and reports as indicated in the project deliverables.

* Data dissemination and usage control for large cross-domain
distributed systems. The project is in collaboration with Microsoft,
HP and BAE systems and starts January 2008.

* Security, trust and privacy for adaptive pervasive workflows. The
project is in collaboration with 4 European universities and starts
February 2008.

* Privacy rights management for mobile systems. The project is in
collaboration with the Open University and IBM Research Labs New York
and starts April 2008.

Research Associate applicants will have a PhD in Computer Science and
Research Assistants will have a Masters Degree in Computer Science at
Distinction Level or equivalent with high grades in relevant courses
and projects. Research Assistants may also register for a PhD if
admitted onto the PhD programme. All applicants must be fluent in
spoken and written English. The posts will be for a period of up to 3
years and based at the South Kensington campus.
