Tabor Island

Tabor Island is the French name for the phantom island otherwise known as Maria Theresa Reef. It was used as a fictitious island in the Pacific Ocean in Jules Verne's works In Search of the Castaways (The Children of Captain Grant) and The Mysterious Island.

Its coordinates are 153 West degrees in longitude and 37 degrees South 11 minutes in latitude.

In In Search of the Castaways (The Children of Captain Grant), the island shelters Captain Grant and two of his crew. Its coordinates being half-erased in the help message found by the children, it takes them months to find the castaways. At the end of the book, Ayrton, the renegade, is left in Grant's place to live among the beasts and regain his humanity.

In The Mysterious Island, after they have settled on Lincoln Island, the heroes also find a message in a bottle, but the coordinates and name of the island appear clearly. They use a small ship to rescue Ayrton, and bring him back to civilisation and rehabilitation. Eventually, the bottle turns out to have been specifically sent to the heroes by the benevolent Captain Nemo.

  Estimados amigos:
  Les escribo porque tengo una pequeña duda y que quizas alguien tenga
  la respuesta.
  
  Me gusta mucho leer a Julio Verne y he leido Los hijos del Capitan
  Grant varias veces. Como sabran, el naufrago Capitan Grant se
  encontraba perdido en una isla del pacifico llamada Maria Teresa o
  Tabor, a los 37° 11' lat Sur y 153° long Este, segun aparece en el
  penultimo capitulo del tercer libro.
  
  Ahora bien, yo me acuerdo de haber buscado de pequeño en los mapas a
  la isla maria teresa y encontrarla, no puedo estar tan loco.
  
  Pero ahora esa isla desaparecio. No se la encuentra en ningun mapa
  actualizado y ni la wikipedia ni la encarta la encuentran.
  
  Alguno de ustedes sabe algo de este tema? Si se hubiera hundido
  alguien lo sabria no? Como es una isla volcanica... O es solo parte
  de la imaginacion de Verne?
