Ahora que Javier menciona la relación entre "sombra" y "horror",
noto que 'the valley of the shadow of death' es una cita usual
de la Biblia, más específicamente del conocidísimo Salmo 22 ó 23
("El Señor es mi pastor..."). Lo curioso es que el contexto en
que figura el tema hace hincapié en el temor:

"Nam et si ambulavero in valle umbrae mortis, non timebo mala,
quoniam tu mecum es" (Vulgata)

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I
will fear no evil: for thou art with me" (King's James Version)

"Aunque ande en valle de sombra de muerte, no temeré mal alguno,
porque tú estarás conmigo" (Reina-Valera)
