María Vallejo-Nágera, (Madrid 1.964), es la tercera hija del prestigioso psiquiatra y escritor Don Juan Antonio Vallejo-Nágera.
Licenciada en Pedagogía por la Universidad
Complutense de Madrid, comenzó su ascendente trayectoria en el mundo de las
letras tras ser publicada su primera novela, (“El patio de los silencios”,
Editorial Styria), que quedó quinta entre las cuatrocientas novelas presentadas
en el año 1999 al Premio Planeta.
A continuación, publicó su segunda novela, (“El
castigo de los ángeles”, Editorial Planeta, 2,001), basada en los hechos reales
experimentados por la protagonista durante un viaje a la desolada Bosnia en los
más cruentos momentos de la guerra, obteniendo el halago de la prensa y del
público lector y reimprimiéndose en varias ediciones.
Fue sin embargo su
tercera novela, (“Un mensajero en la noche”, 2003, Editorial Belaqva), la que la
ha encumbrado como las escritoras más leídas y elogiadas del mundo literario en
España. Reeditada hasta el momento hasta 19 veces y publicándose también en
Francia y Portugal, María Vallejo-Nágera trabaja actualmente en un proyecto
cinematográfico sobre esta fascinante historia basada en hechos
reales.
En el año 2004 publicó su cuarta novela, (“Luna
negra”, 2004, Editorial Belaqva), que ha alcanzado enorme éxito entre los medios
de comunicación. Basada al igual que las tres anteriores en hechos reales, la
autora se mete en ella de lleno en la espantosa realidad del éxodo africano
hacia las costas de España.
Su quinta novela es su primera histórica, “La
Nodriza” (Ediciones B, 2006), basada en la vida de la reina María Antonieta, y
que la ha encumbrado como una de las novelistas históricas más leídas de nuestro
país.
En “Entre el cielo y la tierra, historias curiosas sobre el
Purgatorio”, (Editorial Planeta, 2007), es su sexto y hasta ahora último
trabajo. En él, la escritora madrileña nos presenta su primer ensayo, esta vez
adentrándose en el interesante y desconocido mundo de lo que la Iglesia Católica
llama “purgatorio”. En esta curiosa obra, también relata los avatares vividos
por personajes de relevancia social en España que han tenido experiencias con
los fantasmas, o “almas del purgatorio”.
Actualmente reside en Madrid,
está casada y es madre de tres hijos.

María Vallejo-Nágera, (Madrid, 1964), is the third daughter of the prestigious psychiatrist and author Don Juan Antonio Vallejo-Nágera. With a degree in Education from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, she started her career as a writer with the publication of her first novel, (“El patio de los silencios”, Editorial Styria), which came in fifth among the four hundred other novels presented for the 1999 Premio Planeta.
She later published her second novel, (“El castigo de los ángeles”, Editorial Planeta, 2.001), based on real life accounts witnessed by the author during her visit to Bosnia during the bloodiest moments of the war, for which she received the adulation of the press and reading public, resulting in this novel being reprinted several times.
However, it was her third novel, (“Un mensajero en la noche”, 2003, Editorial Belaqva), which elevated her into being one of the most read and praised authors among Spanish literary circles. Reprinted 19 times so far, and also published in France and Portugal, the author is currently working on a cinematographic project that will bring this fascinating story, basted on real life accounts, to the big screen.
In 2004, she published her fourth novel, (“Luna negra”, 2004, Editorial Belaqva), which has received much success with the media. Also based on real life accounts, the author completely submerges herself into what is the horrible reality of the African exodus towards the coasts of Spain.
Her fifth novel is her first historical one, “La Nodriza” (Ediciones B, 2006), based on the life of Queen Marie Antoinette, and has elevated her to being one of the highest read historical novelists in Spain.
“Entre el cielo y la tierra, historias curiosas sobre el Purgatorio”, (Editorial Planeta, 2007), is her sixth and final work to date. In it, the Madrid based writer gives us her first essay, where she delves into the interesting and little known world of what the Catholic Church calls “purgatory”. In this curious book, she also tells of encounters by people of high social ranking in Spain who have had experiences with ghosts or “souls from purgatory”.
Maria Vallejo Nagera currently resides in Madrid, is married and is the mother of three children.
