We take this opportunity to request your urgent help to save the life of a Cuban woman - Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello. 

Martha Beatriz was the only woman arrested in the most recent wave of repression unleashed by Fidel Castro´s totalitarian regime in March 2003 that culminated in the arbitrary arrests, summary trials and long prison terms of more than 75 members of Cuba´s peaceful democratic opposition, human rights activists and independent journalists, and in the summary executions of three Cuban men who attempted to leave the island in search of freedom.

Martha Beatriz was sentenced to 20 years and confined to the Manto Negro prison in the province of Havana, Cuba. Her health is rapidly deteriorating under infrahuman conditions; she is denied medical attention, and we fear for her life. 

We appeal to your solidarity in this international campaign for the immediate and unconditional freedom of Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello, in order to avoid another death as a consequence of the brutality of a regime intent on remaining in power through repression and violence. 

As a women´s organization committed to the defense of the fundamental liberties and rights of the Cuban people, we cannot allow this courageous woman to die in Castro´s prison.

PETICIÓN URGENTE PARA SALVAR LA VIDA DE
MARTHA BEATRIZ ROQUE CABELLO PRISIONERA POLÍTICA CUBANA
 

Aprovechamos esta oportunidad para solicitar su intervención urgente para salvar la vida de una mujer cubana - Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello. 

Martha Beatriz fue la única mujer arrestada a raíz de la más reciente ola represiva desatada por el régimen de Fidel Castro en marzo del 2003 que culminó en los arrestos arbitrarios, juicios sumarísimos y largas condenas de más de 75 miembros de la oposición pacífica democrática cubana, activistas de derechos humanos y periodistas independientes, y en los fusilamientos de tres cubanos que intentaban escapar de la isla en busca de libertad.

Martha Beatriz fue condenada a 20 años de prisión en un juicio sumario y confinada a la prisión de Manto Negro en la provincia de La Habana, Cuba. Su salud se está deteriorando rápidamente bajo condiciones infrahumanas; se le niega la atención médica que necesita, y tememos por su vida. 

Apelamos a su solidaridad en esta campaña internacional para la libertad inmediata e incondicional de Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello, para evitar otra muerte más como consecuencia de la brutalidad de un régimen que se mantiene en el poder arraigado en la represión y la violencia. 

Como una organización de mujeres comprometidas a la defensa de las libertades y derechos fundamentales del pueblo cubano, no podemos dejar morir a esta valiente mujer en las prisiones de Castro.
