Mel Martinez for Senate

In the final three weeks leading up to Election Day, the Martinez for Senate campaign continues to gain momentum.  In the last seven days Mel was endorsed by the Palm Beach Post, Miami Herald, Leesburg Daily Commercial and Florida's largest paper the St. Petersburg Times.

To date, Mel Martinez has won every newspaper endorsement in the state, building continued momentum as we approach primary Election Day.

And last week a University of North Florida poll  showed Mel leading his opponents in Jacksonville. With polls showing Martinez surging and McCollum dropping, we are well-positioned to win the August 31st primary.

Remember Election Day is just around the corner, so  let's keep up the hard work and make sure that every Republican knows about Mel's life story, conservative credentials and positive message to fight for Florida families in the U.S. Senate, before they enter the voting booth on August 31st.

Take a few minutes to read excerpts from yesterday's newspaper endorsements and the Jacksonville poll numbers, then forward them to your friends .....

The Miami Herald

"Our recommendation is for Mr. Martinez, whose close alliance with the president, support for Israel and willingness to reach across the partisan divide would best serve all Floridians."

"Mr. Martinez epitomizes the American dream. He came to this country from Cuba at age 15 as part of the humanitarian Operation Peter Pan. Elected Orange County Chairman in Orlando in 1998, Mr. Martinez earned plaudits for cutting taxes and championing law enforcement. Under his ''Martinez Doctrine,'' he attempted to protect overcrowded schools from being overwhelmed by development. As the federal HUD chief, he was among the first agency heads in the government to adopt President Bush's faith-based initiative."

The Palm Beach Post

The Post recommends the White House candidate: Mr. Martinez. President Bush recruited him, and if he wins in November and Mr. Bush is reelected, Florida ? which gets less than the state's share of federal money ? would benefit from the relationship."

"Mr. Martinez seems not to have forgotten his own history. 'I came up the hard way, man,' he said last week. 'I know what it's like to have nothing.' More important, he wants to give those with nothing a chance to have something."

UNF Poll: Martinez Leads In Duval; Many Voters Still Undecided In Senate Races

POSTED: 2:55 pm EDT August 3, 2004

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A University of North Florida poll released Tuesday finds that President George W. Bush has a solid lead over Democratic challenger John Kerry among likely Duval County voters, but most are still undecided about who should replace Bob Graham in the U.S. Senate.

More than half of registered Republicans said they were undecided about whom they would vote for in the primary. Of the six named GOP candidates, the top selection in this poll was Mel Martinez.....
