      ITV Studios Invests in Piv Bernth’s Drama Indie

      ***Image***Apple Tree Productions, which was recently launched by Piv Bernth and Lars Hermann (The Killing, The Bridge), has received an investment from ITV Studios.

      Formerly the head of drama and deputy head of drama at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), respectively, Bernth and Hermann set up Apple Tree Productions to create high-end Danish and Nordic drama series. Bernth and Hermann will be joined at Apple Tree Productions by former DR Drama producers Anders Toft Andersen, Karoline Leth and Dorthe Riis Lauridsen.

      SKY NZ Lines Up Dramas, Movies from U.S. Studios

      ***Image***SKY in New Zealand has inked a set of deals with studios such as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros., bringing a wealth of new series and movies to its customers.

      A pact with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution positions SKY as the exclusive NZ home for all upcoming titles broadcast on FX in the U.S. “FX is known for terrific original dramas and limited series such as American Crime Story, Snowfall and Feud,” said Lisa Clements, SKY’s head of acquisitions, entertainment and movies. “We have enjoyed a strong working relationship with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution on their titles from the FX stable for many years. It’s great that we are now entering a longer-term exclusive deal with them for all of the studio’s newly produced series on the U.S. FX network.”

      iflix Orders First Original Malaysian Drama

      ***Image***iflix is gearing up to launch its first-ever original drama series in Malaysia, KL Gangster: Underworld.

      The series comes from the makers of the hit box-office franchises KL Gangster, Munafik and Abang Long Fadil. KL Gangster: Underworld is a spin-off of Skop Productions’ films KL Gangster 1 and KL Gangster 2 and is helmed by directors Syafiq Yusof (Abang Long Fadil 1 and 2) and Faisal Ishak (Juvana). Written by Nazri Vovinski Annuar and produced by Datuk Yusof Haslam and Syamin Yusof, the six-part drama is scheduled to premiere in mid-2018 exclusively on iflix’s platform globally.

      FOX Portugal Slates New Seasons of MacGyver, Scorpion

      The U.S. action-adventure drama MacGyver returns for a second season in Portugal on FOX, alongside a fourth run of Scorpion.

      The debut of MacGyver on the network last year marked the biggest premiere ever of a pay-TV series in Portugal, with about 300,000 viewers. The series returns on December 19 at 10:15 p.m. with its second season.

      Lifetime Asia to Debut First Korean Original Drama

      Lifetime Asia has slated its first Korean original drama, The Best Moment to Quit Your Job, from A+E Networks Korea.

      The 8×1-hour series is lined up for a regional debut on Lifetime Asia on December 10 at 8 p.m., simulcast with the premiere in Korea. Directed by Jung Jung-Hwa (Flower Boy Ramen Shop, First Seven Kisses), The Best Moment to Quit Your Job is based on the webtoon series of the same title published by COMICA.

      Caracol Television’s The Girl has landed a slot on U.S. Spanish-language broadcaster UniMás in prime time.

      Distributed by Caracol Internacional, the series is based on real-life facts about the journey of a young girl forcibly recruited by the guerrilla who experiences firsthand the horrors of war. After she decides to leave the armed group, she begins to reintegrate herself into society and must face her family and herself.
